10 Songs We Fell In Love With In 2016

2016 has been the year of killer music. From Beyonce dropping Lemonade to The Weeknd’s Starboy, we’ve had some pretty amazing songs come out this year. Here are some of my favourites:

Closer – The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey

This is undoubtedly one of my favourite songs of this year! Every time I listen to this song, I’m instantly transported back to the summer when I was hanging out with my friends and having fun. Halsey’s voice is always intoxicating and perfectly suited for the carefree tone of the song. Truth be told, it’s the quintessential let’s-live-forever type of song but it’s hard not to love it all the same.

Can’t Stop the Feeling – Justin Timberlake

This isn’t my all-time favourite song, but that’s only because it got really overplayed once it came out. That being said, JT’s songs always make you feel good and want to dance and this one is no different. Every time I listen to it, I get so happy and just want to start dancing (even when I’m driving)!

Wait For It (Hamilton) – Leslie Odom Jr.

Okay I’m cheating a little bit, but 2016 was the year I rediscovered Hamilton. Out of the 40-something tracks from the musical, this is one of my favourites simply because it’s so hauntingly beautiful. The message tears right into your soul and it really created a “Oh my god, this just nails life” moment for me. Plus, Leslie Odom Jr. nails every part of this song.

Starboy – The Weeknd

For some reason, this song is really hypnotizing. I’m not the biggest fan of The Weeknd but something about this song just makes captures me. His vocals are so beautiful and pure that I’m honestly amazed at how smooth the entire track ends up being.

Let’s Hurt Tonight – OneRepublic

OneRepublic is hands-down my all-time favourite band. There is rarely a band who consistently comes out with albums that I fall in love with but OneRepublic nails it every time. So when I heart this song from their new album, Oh My My, trust me when I say that I got emotional — super emotional. Everything from the lyrics to the vocals to the music is just perfect and every time I listen to it, I get goosebumps.

Formation – Beyonce

2016 is nothing without Beyonce dropping Lemonade on us mortals like a Queen. There is so much power and movement in this song that it’s ridiculous. For a lot of us, Formation served as a wake up call and really brought #BlackLivesMatter to the forefront of our attention. Let’s face it – only Beyonce can pull that off seamlessly and still look like a true BAMF.

Heathens – Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots has easily become one of my favourites in the past year so when this song came on my Spotify, I had a real badass-jam-out moment. Originally from the Suicide Squad soundtrack, Heathens is one song that easily makes my fitness playlist.

Side to Side – Ariana Grande ft. Nicki Minaj

I’ll be honest – I’m not a big Ariana Grande song but there’s something about Side to Side that opened my mind to her. Her vocals are crazy beautiful and after listening to this song, I’ll admit— I get the hype. Plus, let’s be real; Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj are absolutely magic together. (Side note: if you haven’t listened to Bang Bang, you should!).

All We Know – The Chainsmokers ft. Phoebe Ryan

2016 has been the year of The Chainsmokers for me. When it comes to DJs, I have very picky tastes but for some reason, they’ve been hitting it out of the park for me! All We Know is one of my favourite songs from the duo, which is interesting because it’s not particularly well-known. If you haven’t listened to this one yet, I highly recommend giving it a listen.

Capsize – Frenship ft. Emily Warren

The first time I heard this song, I was entranced and to this day, if this song ever comes on my Spotify, I have to sing along! It’s so simple and minimal in its sound and yet, there’s almost a whimsical feeling you get from listening to it.

Shout Out To My Ex – Little Mix

Breaking up is never easy, but hey – at certain points we all have to move on. No one ever said that it’s easy, but this song makes you want to stand up, dance, and remind yourself that it isn’t easy, but you are better off now.
