Waking up somewhere unknown is always scary. For a split second you don’t recognize the surroundings. Fear floods through you until you look around and catalog the surroundings. Everything isn’t as scary as it first seemed. You’re in room, or on a bus, or even snuggled up on your couch. But what about when you don’t recognize the surroundings? That’s exactly what Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wonders when a stranger (John Goodman) tells her he saved her from a chemical attack that has left the outside world uninhabitable in 10 Cloverfield Lane.
Let’s take a look at the lessons that can be learned from the journey that Michelle is about to set off on. Trust me, they’re essential.
A Well Stocked Bunker is Your Best Friend
Maybe it’s the end of the world. Or maybe you’ve been kidnapped by some psycho who likes to shake his groove thing in front of his jukebox. Either way you’re in a prime location stocked full of food and puzzles as far as the eye can see. So hunker down and know that until you figure out what the hell is happening you’ve got marshmallow fluff sandwiches to keep you fed and blankets to keep you warm.
Use the Confusion Against Your Enemy
You’ve woken up in a strange place with no recollection of how you got there. You can’t call for help, check your location on Google Maps, or send an S.O.S. with smoke signals. There’s nothing you can do but sit there in uncertainty…planning. Let your enemy think you’re a scared and meek little thing. Their guard will fall while you plan your way out. And when you finally make your move they won’t know what hit them.
It’s Not What It Seems
There’s something lurking outside of your safe haven. Sometimes it worth listening to the warnings of your captor. Don’t open that door unless you’re ready to face the consequences beyond. Once you step outside there’s no turning back.
