REVIEW: City of Bones – The Best YA Adaptation We Have Seen

I always say that I am not tooting my own horn when I tell you that I – in some way, shape, or form have and am associated with most major fandoms out there. Hunger Games, Twilight, Warm Bodies, Beautiful Creatures — and I have been proud to be a part of all of them.

When we got word that we could see an advanced screening of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we didn’t object. So along with fan sites – we journeyed to see the movie.

Please know that this is an emotional review and non spoilery. It’s a moment to tell you what we thought about the movie.

City of Bones is one of the best book to movie adaptations I have ever seen. We were blown away by the sets, acting, casting, and script.

We will tell you that as in most book to movie adaptations, somethings are changed. However, please know this – the way things are changed do honor and justice to the book. Where as somethings change, they do for the overall good of the story and to bring the cinematic element to the screen.

Let’s examine the cast. Because I know that you are all waiting for how was the cast. I know that is what I would want to know. I have to say that the casting director, Stephanie, is a genius. She understood the characters better then we ever gave her credit for. I hope that they keep her throughout the series.

Jamie Campbell Bower. I have to sit here and tell you that I am just floored. I wasn’t his biggest fan, but I will tell you – I LOVE THAT ACTOR. Jamie Campbell Bower literally is Jace. He is the perfect mix of hotness and cockiness. He gets who Jace is and understands him better than any of us. I mean, I thought that I knew my fictional boyfriend. But when I look at Jamie Campbell Bower now – I see Jace. I walked out of the movie theater and I knew one thing – THE SMARTEST DECISION FOR THIS FRANCHISE WAS CASTING JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER.

Lily Collins hair was the perfect shade of red. I know we all wanna bitch about her hair. But it was perfect. Lily embodies the perfect mix of vulnerability and girl power. She gives a performance that lets girls know there is nothing that you can’t overcome. There is nothing that can’t be done. Lily is Clary.

Kavin Zegers and Jemima West make such a positive showing that makes you ache for more. Kevin Zegers is the perfect Alec and speaks loudly with his facial expressions. There are scenes that you look Kevin and go “oh shiznet” cause he literally freaks you out. Jemima has such a presence. She flies off the screen and makes you want to stand up and cheer for her.

And lets not forget Robbie Sheehan. Cause I will be the first to tell you that sometimes I bow my head and go “Oh Robbie”. But this time I wanted to stand up and cheer and go “YES! ROBBIE!”. Robbie literally embodies Simon and takes you on a wild ride. He makes you want to hug him, cry for him, and cheer for him. He embodies the perfect nerd – the one you want to fall in love with and bring home to Mom and Dad. In the books, I wanted to slap Simon. Now, all I want to do is get his number and stalk his facebook page.

Get ready to fall inlove with Godfrey Gao – because he flies off the screen and makes you want to bathe in glitter and greatness. And he delivers one of the best lines in the movie.

The adult actors – especially Aidan Turner make you freak the hell out. Can we talk that I worry that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is that scary in person, cause when he walks out I want to crawl under my seat and say “Look Dad, I promise I will behave”. He is perfection. PERFECTION. No one could have done that better.

Guys – I could carry on for days. But I am telling you that City of Bones is a movie you don’t want to miss. It is perfection on a stick. I am so proud to be a part of this fandom. You will understand when you see it. And we hope to hear all about what you think.
