Three years and four Marvel superhero shows later. It’s all come to this. The ultimate superhero team-up.
This August, get ready for Marvel’s The Defenders.
From the beginning, Marvel and Netflix aimed for this small screen superhero team-up. Only they opted to forgo an immediate team-up. Instead, they decided to introduce each hero as an individual and establish them as their own unique hero before bringing them together to fight an even greater evil. And it was the best decision they made.
Now, our four heroes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will unite to save New York City from what we can only expect to be a vicious big bad that’s too big to take on alone. But this is what we live for. This is what we’ve been waiting for. What these last five seasons have led to. We’re beyond ready for The Defenders to unite!
Here are just five reasons that we cannot wait for Marvel’s The Defenders to premiere!
1. Finally! The Team-Up
There’s no doubt that a large part of the anticipation regarding The Defenders stems from the fact that we’ve been introduced to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist prior to the series. Not only has it made sense from a story point of view — establishing these characters previously to form that emotional bond with the audience — but it’s also led to the anticipation of the collaboration between all four that we knew was on the way. That was the plan from the beginning. The hype has been building with each passing season. And now, it’s finally about to come to fruition.
2. The Group Dynamic
If we’ve learned one thing over these past three years, it’s that as individuals Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand have their own unique personalities that on their own are entertainment. But if there’s one thing that we’re craving to see unfold more in its entirety, it’s by far the group dynamic with these four vibrant heroes. From the trailer alone it’s evident that the dynamic between these four is going to be one of the more appealing elements of The Defenders. How the sarcasm meshes with the bluntness meshes with vice versa. When you throw four different individuals together to take down a greater evil, it’s not instantaneous success. In fact, it’s quite difficult to work as a team with people you’ve just met. But it’s going to be them learning to work together that’s going to be truly entertaining.
3. Hints to Future Seasons
Given that we’re getting this team-up hot off the current seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, the natural thing is to be curious about the current state of our heroes. As in, where do we find them in this timeline? Is The Defenders immediately after Iron Fist? Can we expect to see some ramifications from all four shows’ most current seasons? Can we expect to see characters from those shows crossover into The Defenders? Should we look to The Defenders for any hints to these upcoming seasons? That’s the beauty about doing a show like this at the time they’re doing it — where we know these characters, where future seasons are in the works, and when us as fans can play a little detective.
4. The Action Sequences
When you have a blind ninja, a bullet proof man, a smartass detective, and a man with a glowing fist, you know that you can expect some pretty epic action sequences. Come on, these heroes by themselves has given us some of the best fight scenes we’ve seen in awhile. Just imagine what happens when you throw all four of them together! While these Marvel shows are fantastic at balancing story with action, there’s no denying that the action sequences are quite impressive and anticipated. So as our four Defenders prepare to take on an imposing threat, we know that some pretty epic battles await us. And we can’t wait.
5. A Worthy Big Bad
Since 2015, we’ve been introduced to Matt Murdock’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand’s Iron Fist. We seen them go from (semi)ordinary individual to the hero of their respective borough. We’ve seen them take on the worst that New York City has to offer. So it only makes sense that the foe that the four of them take on be so much more than they are as individuals. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have taken on some nasty foes. But in order to call for this kind of team-up, we can’t imagine how imposing this new big bad is. It’ll have to someone — or someones — that ultimately force these four unlikely heroes together. A big enough threat that these four lone heroes are forced to team up and use their unique gifts to take. Them. Down.
The Defenders entire first season hits Netflix on August 18.
