5 Things We Learned From the Agents of SHIELD Panel at SDCC

We have become almost accustomed to the crazy antics of the Agents of SHIELD cast at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) and this year did not disappoint as the cast and showrunners spoke about the past season and teased a bit about what is to come.

The panel was moderated by the Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb and consisted of producers Jeff Lee, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Henry Simmons, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet and Clark Gregg.

1. There’s a chance that Bobbi and Hunter will return to Agents of SHIELD

Although it was not explicitly stated, one of the audience members asked if, seeing as Marvel’s Most Wanted was not picked up by ABC, agents Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter could return to Agents of SHIELD. Jed Whedon responded that it’s classified but told them to keep watching. So they did not outright say that we would not see Mockingbird and her on-again/off-again husband again but we do not have a clear answer yet. Many cast members, especially Henry Simmons, noted ‘Spies Goodbye’ episode, Bobbi and Hunter’s last, as their favorite moment.

2. Daisy might get a new love interest

Another audience member noted that since both Grant Ward/Hive and Lincoln died in the season three finale, should we start mentally preparing ourselves for new love interest for Daisy. Clark Gregg joked that they couldn’t find anyone to fill the role because there is an expiration date. But Whedon did say that after a period Daisy will move on and perhaps there will be a new love interest.

3. Ward/Hive is gone forever

If you read my recaps you know that I was extremely tired of Grant Ward as a villain and while he was compelling in the first two seasons after a while he just became an annoyance, mostly there because they did not want to let the character go. But I could not deny the fact that Brett Dalton was an excellent and charismatic actor, and when Ward did die in the midseason finale of season three, it was almost refreshing to see Dalton brought back as Hive. However, the cast did give one final round of applause to Brett Dalton as Loeb said he won’t be returning to the show.

4. Iain and Elizabeth had chemistry right from the beginning

One of the awesome video clips that we got to see was the very first screen test between Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge which showed the amazing chemistry that they had from   beginning. Maurissa Tancharoen noted that when they saw this they felt they had to include it in the show and it became the scene underwater in the first season’s finale.

5. Ghost Rider is coming

We previously wrote about the Ghost Rider announcement here, but speculation about Ghost Rider appearing on Agents of SHIELD took place after a poster featuring a chain on fire for season four was released, and then there was the casting news that they were looking to cast two Latino brothers which sounded like Robbie and Gabe Reyes. At SDCC, there was a large covered structure which looked a lot like a car in the Marvel booth that a few Marvel employees tweeted about. All through the Agents of SHIELD panel, Clark Gregg kept asking Jeph Loeb to show the ‘thing’, which ended up being the announcement that Ghost Rider will be in season 4.
