Five Ways @ChristinaLauren Changed Our Reading Lives

I will freely admit that I am a prude. Yes, I turn fifty shades of red at the word blow-job or if you say the word “cock” I have a tendency to laugh. I never read a lot of fan fiction because reading about sex embarrassed me. But all of that changed when my friends exposed me to the Beautiful Bastard series, I sat down and engulfed the series. For the first time I wasn’t embarrassed over romancey novels, I embraced the romance side. Romance wasn’t smut – it was relationships and a story with some sex on the side.

I started to journey beyond the supernatural and found what I had always been looking for – adult stories that weren’t in another world – but rather in real life.  Journey into their world, don’t be afraid.

They taught us what a writers relationship with a reader should be like.

Christina and Lauren genuinely care about their readers. Both are active on social media and spend a lot of time responding to fans. They make sure that every fan knows that they are important in their world. Christina and Lauren are the type of authors who obsess over the same things we do, laugh at the same jokes, they try to learn more about the things that their readers love so that they can stay involved in their lives.

They write men that we can relate to and ones that we can’t.

I mean heres the thing – they write everyone from the billionaire asshole to the French dude that you can’t get enough of to the fisherman that you would seriously not mind smelling for. There are a million things that can be said for the men that they write, but they remind you that there is a man out there for everyone. The great thing about Christina Laurens men is that they remind you that there is someone out there for everyone.

They taught us that writing Fan Fiction is okay, because you are writing.

Christina Lauren started out in fan fiction of the Twilight kind. They aren’t ashamed of that – they embrace it. The road to them becoming who they are is something that they are open about. They embrace people who write, no matter what you writer – because you are writing. The one thing that I have found about Christina Lauren is that they embrace everyone as long as you are following your dreams.

They reminded us that love always prevails – if you let it.

I am not a big believer in love – yes I am a skeptic. I have always been a person that thinks that everything ends badly. The truth is that there is someone out there for everyone and we just don’t see it all the time. Christina Lauren reminded me that love exists. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s hard, but it’s always a process. So you have to make your way through that process – whether it be real life love or fictional love. Either way – it’s out there. Believe in it.

They care. Therefore we care about their opinions.

I am not saying that other authors don’t care about their readers – they do. But what is special about Christina Lauren is that they care about fandoms. They vocalize their love for fandoms. They vocalize their love for eachother. What they do is allow us to know that they care about others and especially eachother. You can’t help but root for them, in turn rooting for their books.

I work a lot. Fangirlish is my baby. I work in social media professionally and I love it - which is probably why I don't keep up on my own. I don't sleep enough and I obsess too much over my favorite things. I need to work on combing my hair more. Or at elast I need to stop dying it different colors.
