6 Intense Moments from The 100: “Perverse Instantiation Part One”

If the penultimate episode “Perverse Instantiation Part One” taught us anything, it’s that MORE pain can always inflicted on The 100. No matter what our delinquents did, A.L.I.E. was one step ahead of them. And just when they thought they had a chance she used their loved ones against them. Sneaky little devil, isn’t she?

Success is within A.L.I.E.’s grasp and Skairku/Grounders are fighting tooth and nail to save their families and people. So instead of hashing out the entire episode in a review, let’s sit back and recount the six most INTENSE MOMENTS of the episode! (You know, the ones that made you jump up and scream, “What the heck is happening?! Why are you hurting my babies?!” Yeah. Those moments.)

Let’s dive right in!

1. Jasper’s Betrayal of Monty

Source: Tumblr

In a surprise move that made our hearts jump to our throats, Jasper apologized to Monty. He admitted the wrong he’d done and wished to work on his failing relationship with his best friend. For a blissful moment everything was perfect and our hearts soured! THEN A.L.I.E. MADE HER APPEARANCE.

The AI had been controlling Jasper since his return from Luna’s home! What makes this moment hurt more than any other, is that this was the moment we were waiting for. After watching Jasper self destruct for so long, it felt like coming home when he hugged Monty. And when A.L.I.E. appeared it felt like she stomped out all the happiness and joy we were suddenly feeling.

I love Jasper, but he took the easy way out by accepting A.L.I.E. Instead of facing his pain, and working to save his friendship with Monty on his own, he decided that forgetting was better. It’ll only make it worse when he finally emerges from the City of Light.

2. Torture of Clarke by Mother

Source: Tumblr

First off, must we continue to traumatize Clarke? A.L.I.E. made Abby torture her own daughter to show Clarke what true power really looks like. It was her way of telling Clarke, the thorn in her digital side, that, ‘It doesn’t matter what you do or how hard you push, I will win. Always.’

It reminds of a quote from the first The Hunger Games book, “This is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy. How little chance we would stand of surviving another rebellion. Whatever words they use, the real message is clear. ‘Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and there’s nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you.’”

These words pertain to A.L.I.E. completely. Torturing Clarke at the hand of her mother and trying to kill her, was A.L.I.E.’s way of asserting herself in every corner of Clarke’s world. She has total control and will use what you love against you aka Abby and Bellamy.

That thought alone makes the A.I. even more frightening. How are they going to defeat her?!

3. Murphy and Bellamy Elevator Adventure

Source: Tumblr

If there was ever a team up I never knew I wanted, it’d be this one. The entire time these two were fighting off Grounders, my mouth was dropped open and I was on the edge of my seat cheering them on. Remember when these two were chomping on the bit to gain an upper hand in Season 1? Even going as far as kicking the other off a stool so they’d choke to death.

Two seasons later, Murphy is fighting to survive, as usual. But this time around he’s got someone he cares for. It’s a complete shift from the arrogant and selfish boy who was only out for himself. And Bellamy, oh sweet boy, he’s gone down the rabbit hole and lost that self-important ball of angst we loved in the very first season. He’s barely piecing himself back together when he gets thrown in with Murphy, on the slowest elevator ride in the world.

This scene proved that no matter where you started, you can work together to destroy a common enemy. Our delinquents can get ahead of the force after them with cooperation, gas masks, and a handy expandable baton. Those City of Light drones might not feel pain, but they sure as hell can get knocked on their asses!

4. Clarke Suggesting They Find Another Night-blood at Any Cost

Source: Tumblr

Our Wanheda makes it really hard to be on her side when she pulls stunts like this. Didn’t she learn anything from her time with Luna? No? Damn. Every move she’s made in her hunt for a night-blood has been a wrong one. Instead of trying the same old thing I wanted her to go for something new!

Luckily enough Octavia stood up to Clarke and talked some sense into her. Sometimes the end doesn’t justify the means. Our fearless warrior was not going to let Clarke destroy another piece of the place she called home. Not anymore.

By the grace of Roan, they found another way that didn’t involve putting hundreds in danger. Hey, it might’ve not worked. And maybe it did land them smack dab in the middle of City of Light drone territory. But they they stuck together and sought out a different path, a more direct one.

Here’s hoping they don’t ALL die next week!

5. Octavia & Indra Working w/ Pike

Source: Tumblr

Let’s start off by saying, thank you “Perverse Instantiation Part One” for breaking my Linctavia heart…again. I wasn’t ready to be reminded once again of the lose of Lincoln.

No matter how much I was itching for Octavia and Indra to take down Pike they didn’t. They had bigger problems and somehow found the will to not kill the man. Plus, dead men can’t fight and Pike had just as much to lose as they did.

So they did what they had to do. They pretended and put a brave face on when all they wanted to do was seek revenge against the person who destroyed a piece of them. The kind of strength these two women exuded in “Perverse Instantiation Part One” defies every assumption that Pike had about the ‘savage’ Grounders. They can reason, be flexible, and see the advantage of having a vile person like Pike on their side.

Just because Octavia and Indra have showed restraint in the face of war…doesn’t mean that they’ll let off Pike easily. He committed crimes against them and he’ll pay when the time is right. Knowing Indra it won’t be quick and painless!

6. The Bludgeoning of Ontari

Source: thealtsource

Our final intense moment from “Perverse Instantiation” was another power play by A.L.I.E. She ordered Jaha, someone who needs to kick the bucket NOW, to kill Ontari like she was taking out the trash. Despite vehemently preaching that she’s trying to save the human race, she doesn’t care. A.L.I.E. is collecting humans for her City of Light like they’re collectible baseball cards.

As for poor Ontari, she was attacked because A.L.I.E. didn’t want anyone else to play with her toys. She’d rather destroy them to bits before handing them over to her enemies. My hope is that she’s scrambling for purchase anyway she can, because she knows the end is a possibility. Maybe it’s closer than anyone expects. And maybe behind that cold and expressionless picture she paints, she’s actually shaking in her designer looking heels.

I can’t wait until this thorn IN MY SIDE meets her maker, A.L.I.E. 1. Now that’s going to be interesting.

Honorable Mention in Perverse Instantiation Part One:

Indra saving Marcus Kane from the blast at the bottom of the elevator shaft. Seems that no matter what happens, these two have each others backs. Need to make matching ‘Best Friends Forever’ shirts ASAP.

Lyra enjoys loud mouthed, damaged characters, with a penchant for rescuing people and drinking their sorrows away. When she isn’t splurging on Netflix shows she’s not so quietly ranting about Teen Wolf, The Walking Dead, and Supernatural!
