Afternators rejoice! The day we have all been waiting for is finally upon us.
Today, July 16, 2018, the After movie officially begins production. Years after it was first announced that the Wattpad-crashing phenom story would become a movie, fans have been anxiously awaiting for the ball to start rolling. Now that it is here, I have little doubt that we will enjoy all the sneak peaks and info coming out as filming takes place just as much as when we finally get to sit in that theater and see the love story come to life.
If you are unfamiliar with the tale, let me give you a little backstory (courtesy of Amazon):
Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way.
But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, tattoos and lip ring, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to.
But he’s also rude—to the point of cruelty, even. For all his attitude, Tessa should hate Hardin. And she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before.
He’ll call her beautiful, then insist he isn’t the one for her and disappear again and again. Despite the reckless way he treats her, Tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real Hardin beneath all his lies. He pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper.
Tessa already has the perfect boyfriend. So why is she trying so hard to overcome her own hurt pride and Hardin’s prejudice about nice girls like her?
Unless…could this be love?
The story is a four-book series that first launched author Anna Todd into the writing stratosphere on online writing forum Wattpad. Heralded by Cosmopolitan as “the biggest literary phenomenon of her generation,” Todd has since become an international best seller with the tale that has gripped a generation. Fans are passionate and devoted to the story, and there is little doubt that same dedication will play over into the film.
Production takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, with Todd herself on set to watch her world to come life. Director Jenny Gage is at the helm, with Josephine Langford (Wish Upon) in the lead role of Tessa, and Hero Finnes-Tiffin (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) as Hardin. Build up to the rest of the casting choices is nothing short of a frenzy, with fans waiting with baited breath for any hints coming from set.
Todd was on set last week to watch the lead actors rehearse and her enthusiasm and love for the pair is evident in a post on her Instagram:
There is little doubt that the film will be the next big hit under Todd’s belt, and we couldn’t be happier for her. She has taken fans along with her on her wild ride, sharing every piece of the journey with us through her social, and to see this next step come to life feels like a dream for everyone who has loved the story and Todd from the start.
We will keep you up to date with all things After as filming kicks off! Stay tuned!
