Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D SDCC Interview: Clark Gregg & Henry Simmons

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D left us with so many questions at the end of season three, that going into the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) we had so much to discuss with stars Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson) and Henry Simmons (Mack) about the show and their characters.

Clark Gregg expressed his interest in being part of the Defenders, being able to kick butt alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist. He jokes that now that Coulson is no longer the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. his first name is once again just ‘Agent’ – a throwback to a comment made by Peggy Carter in the first season of Agent Carter.

Gregg notes that Coulson would not hate being back in the field because that is where he started out and he was honored to be chosen as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a time being and rebuilding the organization even though he did not receive the credit he deserved. “In his heart I think he’s a field agent,” he comments.

When asked about the sparks between Mack and Elena (Yoyo), Henry Simmons responds that it seems as if they going towards the direction of something going on. So there does seem to be some hope for all those YoyoMack shippers out there.

Clark Gregg did talk to the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D. might have come out of the shadows and be under government control, meaning that the next director would probably be a member of the government and not a long-term agent like Coulson – so that rules out our theories that Melinda May or Maria Hill will be the next director – and raises the odds for in being General Talbot.

And of course they answer the important question – Team Cap or Team Iron Man?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to ABC on September 20th at 10pm
