We’ve been having some crazy weather in Southern California these past few days, but AMC took things to the next level by bringing snow and ice to Anaheim courtesy of The Terror.
In an immersive experience exclusive to Wondercon attendees, fans are invited to enter the Arctic as the real-life crew of an ill-fated British Royal Navy expedition did in 1845. It’s a cool (no pun intended) look into life as a crew member aboard the ship’s disastrous trip through the desolate polar landscape.
And let’s just say that this trip is miles away from, say, a cruise to Alaska. You and a small crew board a boat surrounded by ice, then watch as clips from The Terror play around you against the crystal surfaces. Between the uneven walls, the quick glimpses at the show, and the “snow” flying everywhere, it’s difficult to know exactly what’s going on – but that just drives home the mystery and impending danger we’re expecting from the series.
Speaking of, here’s what it’s all about:
“The Terror” is a suspenseful thriller that follows a British Royal Naval expedition as they set sail in search of the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope, fear of the unknown and attacks by a mysterious predator, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. The series is speculative fiction based on the lost voyage where more than 120 crew members inexplicably disappeared. Their fate is one of the enduring mysteries of the age of exploration. This epic series features distinctive imagery and landscapes, with a visual quality that is emblematic in scale and scope of a Ridley Scott production.
The ten-episode series stars Jared Harris (The Crown, Mad Men) as Captain Francis Crozier, Tobias Menzies (Outlander) as Captain James Fitzjames, Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Sir John Franklin, Paul Ready (Cuffs) as Dr. Harry Goodsir, Adam Nagaitis (Suffragette) as Cornelius Hickey, Nive Nielsen (The New World) as Lady Silence and Ian Hart (Neverland) as Thomas Blanky.
Fans at Wondercon can experience The Terror today (Saturday) until 8pm, and tomorrow (Sunday) from 10am – 5pm in the Grand Plaza of Anaheim Convention Center.
The Terror‘s two-hour series premiere airs Monday, March 26 at 9:00pm ET/PT on AMC.
