Arrow Season 5 Finale to Pack ‘Emotional Punch’

As Arrow enjoys its final hiatus this season, the attention shifts to the final five episodes of what’s been a controversial fifth season.

We’ve certainly been vocal about our feelings for season 5 (which have been not good.) But the last couple of episodes have seemingly set Arrow right on its course as we charge forward to the season finale.

Not only have we gotten more focus on the core three — Oliver, Diggle, and Felicity — as well as a formidable big bad in Adrian Chase as Prometheus. But there’s still the promise of Olicity, the return of Thea, and a slew of former villains coming that has us quite excited heading into the final stretch of the season.

As far as the season finale goes, it sounds like it’s going to be one that’s going to pack quite the emotional punch, which is sure to leave us gasping for season 6.

In the final showdown against Prometheus, Oliver is going to need to use everyone that he knows (both friends and enemies) to take down Prometheus.

“The alliances are going to be very surprising,” executive producer Wendy Mericle told EW.com. “You’re not going to believe who Oliver is working with to defeat Prometheus. It’s going to be really emotional. It’s going to be all about Oliver’s family, but not the family we’re thinking of right now. It’s going to end in a giant explosion, but not where we think it’s going to end, and the emotional punch is going to be bigger than the actual physical part of the bombs going off.”

It’s a relief to hear that this finale is going to focus on the emotional implications rather than the physical ones given that’s what made Arrow the success it is. And the whole “Oliver’s family” line? Oh yeah, we know that has something to do with Felicity and/or Diggle.

Arrow is currently halfway through its four-week hiatus as we wind down the final five episodes of what’s been a disappointing but now improving fifth season. With Adrian Chase being revealed as big bad Prometheus, as well as going back to basics with the focus on Original Team Arrow, it appears as if at least Arrow can gain some momentum heading into season 6.

Arrow returns with its final five episodes Wednesday, April 26 at 8/7c on The CW.
