We are gathered here for a glorious moment. A gay moment. One we will remember for ages because the world in all it’s crazy homophobic glory, has always had a problem with casting queer characters in title roles. We’ve been told to wait for our turn or that what/who we were doing was wrong, an abomination.
Yet, here we are. The gays, including myself, are here and we ain’t going nowhere!
Ruby Rose, the one woman who could possibly make you pregnant with one wink, has been cast as Batwoman, the highly trained fighter and lesbian of our DCTV dreams. Now, let’s be honest, we were nervous. The CW doesn’t have the best track record with taking on serious issues. They remember it for one episode and then say, “Bye, Felicia” to it in the next episode. But this, this casting of a lesbian as the lead character of a gay show…well, IT GIVES ME HOPE!
Even better yet, a lesbian is penning the script! Yes, you read it right! Another fellow gay! Caroline Dries from The Vampire Diaries is an out lesbian who will be working with Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television to bring Batwoman‘s story to life!
According to TVLine, the official logline for Batwoman is:
“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope. Based on the characters from DC.”
What do you think about this choice? Is she your Kate Kane? Your Batwoman? Let us know in the comments below!
Batwoman *cries* is set to premiere in the DCTV crossover on The CW this December.
