Beaches Is Not The Remake Any Of Us Were Looking For At All

Beaches was definitely not a Lifetime original movie and it definitely wasn’t the wind beneath my wings either. Basically, the movie sucked and not even in a “we can laugh about this now” way. It was just terrible and hard to watch.

As someone who loved the movie as a kid, I saw that Lifetime was remaking it and instantly asked myself why. It didn’t help that they were marketing it as one of their original films either. It isn’t original, not in the slightest.

But that could all be excused if the movie was halfway decent. Unfortunately the movie was no such thing. It was just a cardboard cutout of the movie most of us grew up watching.

For those who don’t know, Beaches follows the friendship of CC and Hillary. The two meet in Coney Island (or Venice Beach in the case of the remake) as kids and are friends ever since.

The thing that the remake fails to do is make us care about CC and Hillary. We don’t really believe their friendship to begin with. And the worst part? I only almost cried. And if you’ve seen Beaches, you know that you just don’t almost cry over it. You full on sob when Bette Midler is singing at the end of the movie.

So, do yourself a favor: don’t watch the Idina Menzel and Nia Long remake. Nia has a performance worth watching but the movie as a whole doesn’t support it. Truly, I should have known better going into this movie but then Idina Menzel didn’t blink for half the movie and my fears were confirmed.

This proves that Beaches is one of those movies you just don’t touch. The original was so perfect and now people are going to refer to this terrible train-wreck of a remake when talking about it and that’s a disgrace.

I like hot actors and I like to talk about them. It is pretty much my game plan.
