Hellatus is over! Blindspot is back! Were you as keen as we were to enjoy this episode Blindspotters?. The hiatus has become long but after seeing “Clamorous Night” we can say that it was worth it. Before us, we have an episode that has managed to delve more into the hearts of our favorite characters. In addition, they have made us enjoy action and laughter, along with a good dose of tension that has had us with a lump in the throat. Let’s talk about everything! Here we go!
CASE OF THE WEEK
This week there hasn’t been a case as such. What has happened has been a continuation of the previous episode. Once Roman had ordered the deaths of the entire team, he just had to wait for the results. Because of this, on this occasion, we have seen how each murderer has stalked their prey. They have been showing us how our protagonists have been under their perspective every day. Different things have happened to them all and the murderers have had to catch them off guard in order to surprise them.
But the surprised ones have been when they have all managed to kill them and save themselves from their attack. Everyone except Jane to whom Roman had prepared something special … but Jane is nothing if she has no resources and has managed to free herself and attack her captors – which in her case were two – and crush them. Although it has had some difficulty in the end and Kurt, along with the whole team, have helped.
In the end, Roman’s plan hasn’t gone well and the team is already prepared in every way. What’s more, for all that has happened, Roman was packing as a contingency plan but Crawford’s closest ally has stopped him and has proposed a much bigger plan. According to her, they are going to change the world. And that sounds to me: it’s the same as Sherperd said.
It has been different to see each day from the perspective of its protagonists and not everything as a whole. But it has been a welcome change that has also managed to give us some answers we need to understand a little more the actions of the characters, as well as their feelings. And it is strange that I say this because normally this format of showing things I don’t usually like … but this time it has done it and that means that they have done well.
TEAM BLINDSPOT
Jane and Roman
As soon as Jane has been kidnapped, Roman has spoken with her and threatened her with Kurt’s death to see the pain in her expression, as a kind of torture. She is the only one he thought to leave alive. The other assassins had orders to kill their targets and Roman only wanted confirmation of a job done. With Jane it’s different, Roman takes his time, wants to leave her alive and talks to her.
This fact is significant. Even if Roman gives himself and Jane the excuse that he does it to destroy her in such a way that she has no possibility of reparation, as a punishment for having betrayed him and to have declared that for her, he is dead and hasn’t been her family, the reality is different. Jane sees beyond that Roman excuse, see where he isn’t even ready to see yet.
Roman simply can’t kill her just as she couldn’t at the time. They are brothers and there is still a part of him that loves her and only wants to have her in his life. Jane was also in his same situation a long time ago and she was prepared to accept the real reason why she left him free but in Roman’s case it is different. He, as I have told you in other occasions, is carried away by his anger because he is afraid to face the truth.
For that reason, he makes excuses to himself because he still can’t accept that in the end, he loves her as much as he says he hates her. But Roman will be prepared to accept it. And soon, I’m sure.
There is also something else that has caught my attention in this conversation, and that is when Jane asks Roman if so little has been enough to ruin the good that remained in him and Roman responds that he has chosen a family. It’s quite interesting … for Jane, Roman’s actions mean that there is nothing good inside him, however, for Roman it is something different. It’s just putting himself on the side of his family, doing whatever is necessary to protect them.
This thought of Roman has its origin, as everything, in his life with Sherperd. She was also a monster just like Crawford and Roman just wanted her to be his family and loved him. The only way he had to do it was to be loyal to her and do horrible things in her name with the hope of acceptance, of a love … that never came.
Now Roman is doing the same with Crawford with the difference that this time Roman has felt loved and wants to keep that. Keep that family he always wanted and that Crawford has offered him on a platter. But it’s not real, Crawford doesn’t really love anyone and Blake really loves him but she’s deceived … although their feelings are real, their relationship is based on lies.
Roman will realize this but, for that, I’m afraid everything has to start falling down like a house of cards.
Reade
Reade is in trouble! Many fronts have been opened with him. The FBI investigator continues to investigate him in the shadows. She knows he has something to hide from his meetings with the state department agent. He immediately thinks of Megan and what it can mean for both of them. And, although in the taxi they have shared I have applauded Reade standing because he has said four things to that woman who pretended to be good, then everything has ended in the worst way.
She has gone up to Reade’s house and, for the first time, I have seen something of good will in her when she has warned him that they were going to investigate and suspend him. I understood both of them, Reade is pissed off because in his work he has been impeccable and he is in danger for a trifle and, even if they exonerate him, his career is over and she thinks that if he had really been so impeccable he would not be so scared. It’s a difficult situation … but I think that Reade’s work should count much more and that it shouldn’t ruin his career with an investigation he doesn’t deserve, no matter how much his work is.
The argument has become very tense but Meredith has been a collateral damage to the murderer who went for Reade. He has managed to get out well but she is dead. But … does the FBI blame Reade for it or will they investigate him?
To make matters worse, Ritch informs Reade that he has achieved that his immediate suspension will end in nothing and has nothing to worry about. Moreover, we see how Ritch destroys the official role where Reade was informed about it. And I think that will also have consequences for both. Ritch is a fantastic character and is capable of doing anything for his family, even risking his own life and freedom. And I do not think this is anything … what do you think?
Tasha
Tasha is in one of her worst moments although she keeps that mask of indifference with everyone else. Ritch recognizes that and comes to talk to her with his typical jokes. But he knows when he should get serious and he does it. I love him!. What he says to Tasha goes deep for her and me. He went through many things in his life, was alone most of it and had to fall into the lowest – the prison – to get back up and find his real family, the team. For him, the team are not just friends, they are his family and, for them, he is capable of everything.
Tasha must reconnect with herself, do an examination of conscience and start to recover her life and her true family. For this, she goes to a funeral of a friend of his who hasn’t seen for a long time. There she is reunited with his sister and it shows that both had a very special friendship.
Tasha goes up to the lectern and says a few words to her lost friend. She apologizes for not having been more aware of him, for not having been by his side, for not having done more, for not having been a good friend. These words are addressed to his friend but also to people who are not there, more specifically to Patterson and Reade. She has gone up to that lectern and sent them a message. The same message that she hasn’t been able to tell them to her face, the same message that she is afraid to tell them for fear of rejection, the same message that she was denying herself to feel hiding in that she had done what she had to do.
It’s the first time that Zapata is honest with himself about her own mistakes and is a breakthrough of her attitude before. Later, her friend’s sister helps her to take another step when she tells her that she was in the moments and that friendship when it is real, no matter what, friends always recover again. She looks at Reade at that moment, wants to get him back, just as she wants Patterson back. She needs them in her life … and she will have them, she just has to give them time.
Speaking of Patterson, the tension could be cut with a knife when they were alone in the elevator. It’s as if after all they were two strangers who have nothing to say to each other although in reality there are thousands of things that they would like to say. Tasha offers to talk to her, as before, but Patterson is not ready yet. Tasha, although it breaks her heart, accepts it. She knows that she must give her the space and time she needs.
Patterson
Patterson has had a date! Also with a good man although somewhat clumsy in those matters. Ritch has annoyed her a bit when he has known that she had an date but was very happy for her.
Although the date hasn’t gone as expected. He is adorable but come on, start a first date talking about your ex and force your date to be called as she is a failure assured, that is the lesson 101 of “what you never have to do on a date.” Just as lesson 102 is not to spoil the dress of your date by staining it with something viscous and disgusting.
The fact is that nothing has gone as expected and are incompatible but it is great that Patterson is already able to move forward after everything that has happened and do so without distrusting everyone who approaches her. She is being more and more like herself in that aspect of her life and I am proud of her.
JELLER
I love them! This couple manages to melt me with all their scenes. Finally and thanks to Ritch – have I already told you that I love him? Well, I do! – Jeller have taken a free night to go out to dinner, have a date and enjoy their marriage and their reconciliation. It was time! Our babies needed to be just a couple for once!
But for two people as active as Jane and Kurt leaving work behind is difficult. It is simply intrinsic to them to analyze everything, to have that instinct that tells them something is wrong and suspicious. Kurt knows that because when Jane apologizes for over analyzing a woman, he just laughs and tells her that this is something he loves about her – and I am already on the floor melted by that smile and those words -.
But it is thanks to that instinct that they realize that something is very wrong and that woman is dangerous. Both need to check what happens and put together a plan. But first, they kiss each other. It’s fast but I think it clearly shows the couple they are. They kick ass together and that kiss seals a promise: “We’ll come back for more. Love you”. And It’s beautiful.
Later, when Kurt realizes that Jane is in danger, the desperate scream that hits him says it all, as well as the way to break the news to Reade, his voice is tense, almost trembling … he is terrified. That something happens to Jane is her worst nightmare and it’s happening.
Something similar happens to Jane when Roman tells her that Kurt will die. Her eyes darken with a veil of fear, her face contracts … she can’t even think that happens.
When Kurt kills one of Jane’s kidnappers, they look at each other, time seems to stop, they are recognizing themselves, just feeling, savoring each other’s presence and trying to convince themselves that they are real, that they are alive and well. It’s then when they meet again and only with a few words they let the other know the panic they have felt of getting lost.
Already at home, more relaxed, they speak. Jane had already told Kurt that she felt guilty. She left Roman free in her day and none of this would be happening if she had not. But Kurt makes her see that it is not quite like that. Crawford would still be out there, they would not have surrounded him so much if it was not for Roman and her tattoos, maybe two years ago it wasn’t the time to take down Roman. Maybe Jane wasn’t ready. But now Jane lets Kurt know that she is. She knows that it is time and if she thought before that there was any possibility of recovering her brother, she doesn’t think there is any.
As both brothers have said, they have chosen their respective families and that makes them enemies. The two have been looking for and needing a real family. Both have found it but that places them on two sides faced in a war. And Jane is willing to go to the end because she believes that if Roman is still alive her family will always be in danger. Do you agree with her?.
I, of course, understand it and it is clear that Roman has fed that conclusion with everything he has done but I refuse to believe that the story between these two brothers who have been everything for the other ends like this, I still believe in Roman and in which in the end he will do what he must do. And if he dies – fingers crossed so that doesn’t happen – he will be saving Jane or Blake, doing the right thing.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, it has been an episode where, as always, the action has been one of the most remarkable parts but also and although it seems that no, we have entered into the emotional plane of all. We have gotten a little more into their hearts because “following them” in their day we have been able to see beyond the mask of normality and indifference that they have to place to work together.
We have also made much more clear about how the situation is between the team and Roman, more specifically, between him and Jane. And, as if that were not enough, some plots have been opened that will surely have their development in these episodes that remain, being something that surely changes the dynamics at the end of the season.
In short, Blindspot hasn’t been able to return at a better time or in a better way because it has left us wanting more. With desire to do a marathon of all the episodes that remain of the season because we need to know how it goes and how it ends. That is always a good sign.
Agree? Disagree? Don’t hesitate to share your opinion with us in the comments below! We’ll be back next week with episode 3 × 19 “Galaxy of Minds.” And here’s the promo for the next episode.
