Constantin Options Another YA Franchise, Unfortunately

By

I mean – Constantin Films would not be my first choice for anything after we’ve seen what they did to The Mortal Instruments, but that’s just me. They’ve proven that they don’t understand young adult literature.

However, Sarah J. Maas has let them option the rights to A Court of Thorns and Roses. If you aren’t familiar with the book it follows a 19-year-old through a world of faeries, creatures, and old magic. There is an ancient curse – of course. The story is very loosely “beauty and the beast”-esque.

I actually love the books, but I am concerned, because Constantin doesn’t have a great track record. Look, we’re all about being truthful, so it is what it is.

The company has tapped British writer Rachel Hirons (Kiss Me First) to write the script.

Robert Kulzer (one of the producers that has destroyed The Mortal Instruments) said to Deadline, “A Court of Thorns and Roses contains all the ingredients of a theatrical experience. We have been working hard to adapt a screenplay which captures the magic and excitement of the books and look forward to finding the right filmmaker for this ambitious project.”

Here’s hoping that they do a good job for once.
