Could ‘Daredevil’ Be a Trial Run for ‘The Punisher?’

The news of the introduction of The Punisher to the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil, has been an exciting addition, but could we be expecting a whole lot more of Frank Castle/Punisher?

Ted Sarandos, the Chief Content Officer of Netflix, said at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour that it is possible that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher could spin off into it’s own series, depending on how well the character is received with audiences in Daredevil.

Sarandos said to IGN: “It is possible for sure. That’s the beauty of the Marvel universe…Any of them could spin out into films too.”

The original plan was for each of the Defenders’ characters – Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist – to get at least one season of their own series before combining together to create The Defenders. But with Daredevil already shooting a second season, and with the news that a Marvel series will be released every six months, we might have to wait a few years before we see our Defenders team up. But perhaps if characters like Frank Castle became successful with audiences it might encourage Netflix to make more than two Marvel series a year.
