Well, at least one good show is continuing on.
The President we all wish we had is coming back for Season 2 – as ABC has officially renewed Designated Survivor. The show will wrap up its first season, and presumably, it’s conspiracy, on May 17th.
Designated Survivor stars Kiefer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member who is named the ‘Designated Survivor’ for the State of the Union address and finds himself the new President of the United States after a catastrophic terrorist attack.
Throughout the season we’ve seen Kirkman struggle to balance his family life, his political obligations and the search for the people responsible for the attack, and though the conspiracy remains, he has become, in the first twenty episodes of this season, the President this country wishes it had.
In addition to Sutherland, the series also stars Natasha McElhone, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett, Tanner Buchanan, Kal Penn, and Maggie Q. David Guggenheim is the creator and executive producer.
The renewal comes as no surprise as the show has been a solid ratings performer averaging a 1.3 rating and 6 million viewers per episode in the L+SD numbers, and those numbers have consistently doubled in L+3 and L+7.
