This week’s episode of Euphoria was just scratching the surface of everyday teenage lives. In this week’s review we cover Rue, teenager manipulation and Nate’s disgusting behavior towards women. Let’s break down this week’s episode.
Rue
Let’s start with Rue. I felt her anxiety up on that stage as she was told to share a story about her summer. All of her flashbacks of things that had happened. It’s all very real and very relatable. It would be naive of me to say that all people who have an addiction have the same problems, because they don’t. Everyone is unique in how they treat people, how they respond, and what motivates them.
What Rue represents to me is someone who is in pain, who has anxiety, and doesn’t want to confront her emotions. She just wants to feel numb. I think that is something we can all relate to on some level and some point in our lives. She chooses to deal with it with an addiction. That puts her in a very dangerous place and I wish she had more people around her that helped her realize she doesn’t need drugs to cope. She needs understanding and support, not those that instigate her behavior. I hope she gets that in the future.
Manipulation
There is a lot of manipulation in this episode. Between Rue, Kat, and Maddy it shows that teenagers know how to get what they want. They will also do anything to get it. Including ruining others reputations and using entrapment. It’s okay as long as their lives aren’t disrupted and they come out it with their reputations still intact. I am horrified and not at all surprised that some teenagers would go to the lengths that these three did. It just opens your eyes to see that not all teens are innocent, they can be just as shady as adults.
Nate
I dislike him so much and I’m mad at myself for even discussing him. However, I feel it would be a disservice to not address his attitude towards women. Nate, women aren’t weak. We are strong. We aren’t pieces of property that you get too claim or touch when you want. We can do whatever we like. We can sleep with whoever we like. You don’t get too judge a woman and believe that just because she dresses or acts a certain way, she is beneath you. No. You are the one who is disgusting.
