2014 is quickly drawing to a close–but before we ring in the New Year, we’ll be reflecting on our favorite media and moments of the year. Today, members of the Fangirlish team are sharing their favorite charitable campaigns and moments of 2014. From the Ice Bucket Challenge to social netWOLFing, it’s been an especially good year to give back.
Katie M.: Tom Hiddleston’s Ice Bucket Challenge
I had seen posts about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge when it first started, with some of my local friends doing it, but I never really considered doing it myself. At least, not until Tom Hiddleston (#2 on my “Celebrities I Want To Meet” list) partook in the challenge. Thank you, Nathan Fillion, for challenging him. Good lord. I fell in love with him all over again. Not only because of the soaked white shirt (that I’m convinced he chose to wear to make ladies drool), but also because he brought attention to the cause: curing Lou Gehrig’s disease. Oh, and, also, nominating Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, and Helena Bonham Carter. *cackles*
Erin & Liz: Stephen Amell’s F&CK Cancer Campaign
Stephen Amell’s fundraiser. I bought 11 [shirts]. I love his passion for things. – Erin
Stephen Amell makes us all want to be better human beings, am I right?! It’s not just the shirts, although that was amazing, but he also has raffled off scripts and other things to bring awareness and money to great causes. – Liz
Beth: Ice Bucket Challenge
THIS VIDEO SAYS IT ALL, YEAH?!
or THIS ONE!
Mark Ruffalo’s “Mark Buffalo” for his organization Water Defense.
Adele: Chris Pratt’s Ice Bucket Challenge
Chris Pratt’s Ice Bucket Challenge was definitely one of the best and most hilarious videos from this year’s Ice Bucket Challenges.
Iris & Chloe: Social NetWOLFing
It would probably be the Teen Wolf cast’s “Social Netwolfing” T-shirt, and Howlercon’s charity auction. – Iris
The Teen Wolf cast has spearheaded some great charity campaigns the last couple of years – thank you, Reflect It Back calendar – and the Social Netwolfing shirt was no exception. The campaign was a lot of fun, with almost the whole cast sharing photos of them wearing the shirt or making supportive videos. The shirts also supported a great cause personal to the cast: Cystic Fibrosis, which JR Bourne’s niece was born with. I’m proud to wear my Social Netwolfing shirt! – Chloe
Katie C.: Clothe Your Neighbor As Yourself
Some of my very close friends hosted an event for a charity called Clothe Your Neighbor As Yourself. It was simply a clothes sharing event where people brought old clothes to donate and then other people could buy said clothes for a donation amount of their choice. Seems pretty small in the scheme of things, but the whole event and atmosphere was so awesome and the nonprofit is so close to home for me that the event was probably my favorite of 2014.
