2014 is quickly drawing to a close–but before we ring in the New Year, we’ll be reflecting on our favorite media and moments of the year. Today, members of the Fangirlish team are sharing their guilty pleasures.
Beth: Girl Meets World
Seriously the cutest, most fashionable, life-affirming show on television right now. Young adults, teens, pre-teens and whoever likes their brain breaks with heart should check out this show. So full of good vibes, kindness, imagination and good examples of what friendship should look like. Besties, Maya and Riley are the true blue friends that face the negativity of the world holding hands without a care for what others think and a determined, unwavering belief that the other one is going to always have their back. It’s refreshing how everyone on this show seeks out the best in each other. Not much else on television can make this claim and I for one am really happy to share in the nostalgia of its old school feel but also, coming from the crowd that watched Boy Meets World, also appreciate how often they bring the other characters back for guest appearances.
Melissa: Fifty Shades of Grey
I secretly wish I was Anastasia Steele ….. Gimme some Christian Grey!
Man, that show is for realz bad but I can’t stop/won’t stop watching it.
Erin: Boy Bands
Guilty Pleasure … hmmm. Hard, I have a few. But I binge listen to boy bands all day and night. I love pop music, and I love boy bands.
Katie M.: Twilight & Barbie in the Nutcracker
Ohhhhh…. Well, I think the greatest guilty pleasure is a tie between Twilight and Barbie in the Nutcracker. Being an English major, I have many friends who despise these series for not being well written. But I find them enjoyable. Barbie in the Nutcracker has an excellent, romantic, twist on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story. And Twilight, yes, you either love or hate it. Some things might bug me with some of the series, but I do find the romance between Edward and Bella compelling. It brings me back to high school. And a time where life was simpler.
Liz: Action Movies
I feel like my life motto should be, “When in doubt, pop in an action film.” Anything with explosions. This week, it’s The Expendables 2. All these action heroes running around blowing stuff up. What’s more to love?!
Iris: My Mad Fat Diary, The Mindy Project, & Teen Wolf
They are my perfect trifecta of guilty pleasures.
Adele: Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj is definitely a guilty pleasure, but I love her music.
Chloe: Taylor Swift
I don’t feel guilty about this per se, but when you’ve never really considered yourself a Taylor Swift fan beyond recognizing whichever single is blowing up the charts, discovering that you like most of her music over time is weirdly subversive. First it’s one song that you can’t stop listening to, then a few more… We’ll see how this goes in 2015.
Katie C.: Ed Sheeran
I’m pretty sure I haven’t stopped listening to Ed Sheeran’s new album, Multiply, since it was released.
