Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows that made us laugh, cry, go awwwand, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Badass Female Character of the Week
Lariel: Becky Sharp, The Flash. She’s not someone you’d really think of a badass. In fact, at the start of this week’s episode she was downright timid, afraid to unleash her powers of bad karma on the world once again. But then she stepped up and used those powers to protect Barry from her fellow metahuman escapees. True courage is when you do the right thing no matter how afraid you really are.
Lyra: Sister Jo from Supernatural. This angel knew what she wanted from life and went for it. Despite the crazy road she knows she has to jump on to get what she wants, she keeps pushing forward and not letting anyone get in her way. Is she evil? Yes, she’s sided with the man who punched a hole through a Cupid’s heart after he stole him of his angel juice. Is she interesting? Absolutely.
Lizzie: Ortega from Altered Carbon. Without giving away too much…SHE KNOWS HOW TO THROW IT DOWN! She’s curses, speaks multiple languages, and knows how to get into a tussle in an elevator while nursing two palm sized wounds on her shoulder and waist. Ortega is not just a stereotypical “strong female character.” She’s a well written female character. We could all use a little more of women like her
OTP of the Week
Kayla: Karamel. Despite the angst and the current situation – the most recent episode of Supergirl gave me so many Karamel feels. Mon-El tells J’onn the truth on his marriage and says that his feelings for Kara have returned. That falling in love with Kara wasn’t logical, but it happened anyways. He was honest to his wife about his feelings for Kara. To know that even after all he had been through and being married for years, he only ever grew content in the situation, means his love for Kara is true, deep, and profound. It gives me hope for this ship. It’s why they are my OTP this week.
Lizzie: Mulder and Scully having eye-sex even while worried about Skinner because they just cannot help themselves is my aesthetic.
Lyra: How is it that Iris can look on point AF in everything she wears, especially when visiting Barry in prison, and still be a supportive, loving, and hopeful woman & wife? Girl is a survivor and even though her story revolves around Barry a little too much, I love her strength and her belief in her partner.
Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS
Danielle: When Issac explained how his daughter really died in this week’s How to Get Away with Murder, I felt so much sorrow. He took his pills that she’d overdosed on, flushed them down the toilet, took her phone, and texted a “last text” to her mother, making it believe that she killed herself on her own. When in reality, it was the other way around. And he’s had to live with that truth for the next three years, after her death. How awful… He should have just left it alone, but I understood how he’d wanted to take the blame for the only one who knew him best.
Kayla: The Dad-Son chat between J’onn and Mon-El on Supergirl! I need more of these two! Just that Mon-El was so open and honest with J’onn about his situation and then took his advice. Writers, please continue to develop this father-son bond between these two characters. I just need more of it, ok!
Lizzie: Barry Allen and Joe West, from The Flash. MY LOVES. As much as I love Barry and Iris now, what got me into this show was this relationship, and four seasons later, I still love how the show never shies away from showing these two like father and son – which they are, in my eyes.
Quote of the Week
Lizzie: Scully [reading note]: The monsters are here.
Mulder: The monsters are here.
Scully: Does that get your juices flowing?
Mulder: As much as I appreciate any reference to my juices, my only concern here is Skinner. – The X- Files
Danielle: “Who does it help if you give up what you love?” – Scarlett, Nashville
Kayla: “Having complicated feelings doesn’t make you a criminal.” – J’onn to Mon-El, Supergirl
Lyra: “We’re boned.” “Epically.” Dean & Cas, Supernatural
WTF Moment of the Week
Lariel: On Black Lightning. WHAT the hell was Lady Eve doing to that guy on the table?…. You know, I don’t think I really wanna know.
Lizzie: WTF The X-Files? What makes you think that 11 seasons (25 years) in I’d be interested in a Skinner episode?
Lyra: Alex needs to get rid of Maggie’s number now. She shouldn’t have to keep torturing herself like this or thinking that she deserves less. She doesn’t. She deserves someone who loves her and can meet her needs and wants for the future. Maggie loves Alex, no doubt about that, but she’s not willing to take the steps that Alex wants for her future.
So, drop her girl. Delete her number and start off on the road to getting over her and onto something better. Maggie will always be an important part of Alex’s life. But she’s in the past, a stepping stone, for a future Alex deserves.
