Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Badass Female Character of the Week
Lizzie: All my answers are Once Upon A Time related, and I’m not even sorry. Emma Swan is my bad-ass female character of the week – and one of my favorite badass females ever. (Yes, I’m getting emotional already, cut me some slack). This week Emma’s story came full circle – she finally accepted not just that she was loved, but that when someone loves you, that love leaves a mark and that means you’re never ever alone. And that’s why she saved her family. Because Emma Swan is no longer a lost girl, she’s a happy woman who’ll fight like hell to preserve her happy ending (beginning) the one she got where she walked hand in hand with her parents and in the presence of the people who love her, married the love of her life.
Charles: Picking Emma Swan too from Once Upon a Time. All the things Lizzie wrote is 1000000% true and to see her save the day and get married, let me see that Emma is finally in a really good place in her life. She has her Happy Beginning now and with her family by her side, she is ready to take on whatever curse comes after her next.
Nora: Erin Lindsay on Chicago P.D. She’s usually my badass female character, but this week I was just in awe of her. This week’s case was incredibly hard for her and it took its toll on Erin. Between Bunny arriving in town and the horrific details of the case, Erin deals with a lot in this episode. While she’s now dealing with potentially losing her job, Erin was the epitome of a badass female character. She’s strong, fearless and willing to do anything to get the job done. Sophia Bush was INCREDIBLE this week and I’m just in awe of Erin Lindsay in this episode.
OTP of the Week
Lizzie: Captain Swan is married on Once Upon A Time, and honestly, it was perfect. If I could have envisioned and end to this journey – I probably couldn’t have written such a good one, or such a musical one. The looks in both of these characters faces as they exchanged vows, as Hook talked about his heart now belonged to Emma and how he’d changed her from a man who only wanted revenge to someone who understood that a heart full of love is the most precious thing, as Emma confessed that just because you learn that you come from true love doesn’t mean you think you’ll ever find it and she has, with Killian ….I just. What else could you ask for? Really, what else?
Nora: Captain Swan getting married on Once Upon A Time was so perfect and there was no question in my mind who my OTP of the week was. They were so adorable and the musical episode just made it even better. Hook and Emma vowing their lives to each other was everything I needed. There has been just so much character growth in these two characters over the seasons and this was the perfect culmination of all of this. Captain Swan always has a special place in my heart.
Charles: I’ll go with WestAllen on The Flash. Having Barry loses his memory and getting to see “Bart” and Iris have first moments again like a first date and a very lovely kiss was really adorable to see. As was Iris talking about how she knew Barry needed her the night his mom was killed and how she’s loved him ever since was one that hit me right in the feels.
Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS
Lyra: The death of Eileen Leahy on Supernatural. This savvy, adaptable, heartwarming, teasing, wonderful hunter (I really can go on describing Eileen) was struck down in the middle of the woods and left to die alone. As if she meant nothing. As if no one cared for her. It was a disheartening end to such a unique hunter. And the subsequent mourning by Sam & Dean broke me. There was a fire in her and now it’s gone.
Charles: Has to be the Captain Swan wedding on Once Upon a Time. It was beautiful to witness the journey of Emma Swan and Killian Jones reach this moment. Everything about it was as wonderful as it could have been. I teared up at Emma talking about finding true love with Hook and Hook giving his heart to Emma. This is exactly what happiness looks like.
Nora: On The Flash, Iris reminding Barry about a visceral memory in order for Barry to get his memories back was an emotional moment. Seeing little Iris consoling little Barry about his mother’s death was so cute. Also, Iris telling Barry that’s the moment she fell in love him just destroyed me. Really the entire episode involving Iris and Barry was emotional for me. Watching Barry fall in love again with Iris right before ours eyes was the perfect break from all the chaos that’s been happening with them.
Lizzie: Can I just say every second of the family formed by Anne, Matthew and Marilla on Anne With An ‘E’? I didn’t think I was going to love this adaptation so much, and I certainly didn’t think I was going to be assaulted by family feels every second of my binge-watch. And it wasn’t just Matthew, either, who’s been a fave of mine since I first read the book when I was a kid, it was Marilla too and the way Anne just fit with them…the way she made them a family. I just have all the Anne feels right now.
Superhero of the Week
Lyra: Melinda May from Agents of Shield. When faced with impossible odds Melinda May went to extremes for a chance to survive. She’s a warrior who trusts her team, knows her limits, and will fight to her dying breath. Every episode I end up surprised and inspired by her perseverance. She won’t let the world take her down without the fight of a lifetime!
Nora: James Olson from Supergirl is my superhero of the week. After realizing Guardian may not be the masked hero he wants to be, James takes a different approach and decides to remove the mask and be his own hero. After weeks of sitting in the background, James finally has an amazing episode as he helps a young boy realize he’s not alone in this galaxy.
Lizzie: Broken record here, but I don’t care. Superhero of the week is Emma Swan from Once Upon A Time, because girl went and got her happy ending. She didn’t have it handed to her, she fought for six seasons and now she’s here, she’s got her family, she’s got the love of her life and she can look at a curse and be all like BRING IT. We’ll defeat you.
Quote of the Week
Lizzie: There’s no storm we can’t outrun/ We will always find the sun/ Leave the past and all its scars/ A happy beginning now is ours. When we’re facing endless night/Take my hand and join the fight/Past the clouds, we’ll find the stars/A happy beginning now is ours. – A Happy Beginning, Once Upon A Time.
Lyra: “If you have big ideas, you have to use big words to express them, haven’t you?” – Anne, Anne with an E
Charles: “There is only room in your heart for…” – Ophelia
“What?” – Ophelia – Agents of SHIELD
Nora: “Are you like a supervillain? Sorry, just asking.” – Barry, The Flash
WTF Moment of the Week
Lyra: Cheryl Blossom being left alone after trying to kill herself on Riverdale. I don’t particularly love Cheryl, but her suicide attempt was painful, real, and she needed support. It made me look at her different for a moment and wonder about the Cheryl I’ve known all season long. Watching everyone leave and do their own thing or dismiss her really pissed me off. Even I would’ve ditched some town celebration to make sure that she was ok and wouldn’t attempt something again. Sure, punching the ice, breaking your hand, is pretty big. But what about the after? Why does no one think about the after? Girl needs therapy, friendship, and more than just a dismissal.
Charles: Fred Andrews getting shot at the end of #Riverdale. After the whole “Who shot Jason Blossom?” mystery, I figured we might get a calm season finale. Instead, we got near-deaths, lovemaking and finally a “Maybe” fatal-shooting of Archie’s dad at Pops’ Diner. Now we have a new question of “Who shot Archie’s dad?!!””
Nora: As a Pretty Little Liars fan since literally day one, I always knew Aria would be the one to turn to the darkside, but that didn’t mean it softened the blow. Aria thinking about turning on her friends and working with A.D. is so heartbreaking. I’m so curious how this is going to play out. Also, I called Alison being impregnated with Emily’s eggs, but man that it a massive WTF!
Lizzie: When it turns out Michelle Hanna had been kept captive in the EXACT SAME PLACE Deeks and Kensi checked out at the beginning of the episode, and she died because they couldn’t find her in time and she was out of air and Sam was crying and I was crying too and I just …why? Why?
