Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Badass Female Character of the Week
Danielle: Give Kate from This is Us (aka Chrissy Metz) all of the Grammys, American Music Awards, VMAs, and more for singing Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” in front of her mom! Oh, and Toby, too, I guess lol. She wasn’t even supposed to sing; she got the gig last minute. And even though she almost sang at her middle school talent show when she was younger, she choked last minute because she’d felt intimidated by her beautiful thin, tall, coffee-house-singer of a mom. At least she’d done a great job, but it still wasn’t enough for Rebecca. Kate was right; Rebecca overcompensates for everything Kate attempts, and it makes her feel almost worthless. So Kate standing up to Rebecca after all these years definitely makes her a badass!
Hannah: Rosa from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She’s free! And whilst it was ridiculously satisfying to watch her destroy Lieutenant Hawkins, it was somehow even more satisfying to find out she followed Amy’s advice. Now I just can’t wait for her to get back to being the badass cop we know and love.
Lizzie: Chloe Decker, on Lucifer. She keeps taking whatever life throws at her and she never, ever breaks, she just adapts and comes out the other side stronger for it.
Erin: For me it was Kate (Chrissy Metz), on This is Us. Why? Well that would be because I know what type of courage it takes to step outside your body and follow your dreams. But for me the bigger thing was that she told her Mama why she held things against her. She told her what she did. And I have been there. I cried – collapsed into a puddle of feels. Being overweight is a lonely thing, and every week Kate makes me feel less alone. She’s just perfection. And I thank her so much for giving me someone to look up to, someone to relate to, and someone to make me feel less alone. Thank you Chrissy, for playing such a strong character. You are amazing.
OTP of the Week
Kayla: Henry and Cinderella on Once Upon A Time. I’ve heard it being called Glass Believer. There was a spark that I’ve rarely seen out of a couple, especially in a first meeting. I can’t wait to see what comes from them in the rest of the season. Even in their cursed personas, there is a spark that I’ve only seen from a few other ships. This is one OTP that is worth shipping.
Lizzie: Look, I’m not saying I’m shipping Marcos and Lorna, from The Gifted after watching them together just a few minutes, but I am saying exactly that, okay?
Erin: I rewatched the season finale of Supergirl this week, so it counts. And I felt all the feels for Karamel again. I need them back.
Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS
Lizzie: Basically every moment with the Struckers together on The Gifted. I don’t know what I was expecting from this show, but it wasn’t an avalanche of family feels. From Reed Strucker choosing his family, in such a casual, obvious way, like there wasn’t even a question, to Caitilin Strucker turning into protective mother – and then the kids! Supportive siblings. Who knew? I just loved it all.
Brittany: Like a mid-40s suburban soccer mom I watch This Is Us. Who am I kidding everyone should watch this show. Anyways, I melted this week during the flashback when Jack was telling Kate he has a drinking problem and she just grabbed his face in a way that said “It’s okay dad. I love you”. FEELINGS.
Kayla: On Once Upon A Time, my moment came with Lucy and Jacinda. When Jacinda says, “I know why you want to believe in fairy tales. Because life is hard.” I was like, no truer words can be spoken. Sometimes believing in a story is just the beginning. I love that from Lucy.
Hannah: Danny sticking up for Mindy on The Mindy Project. He’s come a long way from the man who tried to control way too much of her life, and whilst I don’t necessarily think they’re in a position to dive back into a romantic relationship, the fact that Danny fully supports Mindy’s roles as a doctor and a mom to their son makes me ridiculously proud.
Erin: When Kate told her Mom how she felt about her on This is Us. She’s a rock. But when she was that vulnerable, I felt like it was okay to be. Chrissy Metz, thank you.
Superhero of the Week
Lizzie: Tom Kirkman is just a guy who uses common sense to do the job of President. It’s surprising how uplifting that is, especially considering, you know. Good job, Designated Survivor. Good job.
Hannah: Amy from Superstore. She showed just how caring she is as a person as she slowly coaxed Dina to open up to her, certainly not the easiest of tasks. Saying that, she may live to regret her persistence…
Erin: For me this week was Mindy on The Mindy Project? Why? Because she just didn’t give up – she wants to be the best at everything. She doesn’t want to be misunderstood. She loves deep and she loves hard and even though you can say Mindy is a little bit of a fuckup, I don’t think of her that way. I think of her as a role model. I love her innocence and vulnerability.
Quote of the Week
Lizzie: “Love is…when you give your heart and soul to another. And they give theirs to you in return.” – Jamie Fraser, Outlander.
Danielle: “If you ever talk to him again, I’ll cut off your balls and feed them to you. Trust me, I’ve done worse.” -Michaela, How to Get Away with Murder
WTF Moment of the Week
Kayla: On The Big Bang Theory, Bernadette tells Amy that she went on a company retreat to Tahiti and didn’t tell Howard. She lied to him and told him it was in Boise. WTF, Bernadette! You don’t lie about things like where you are going to your husband. It’s not right at all. I love Bernadette. She often makes me laugh, but this moment made me question her character. If she’s lied to Howard about this, what else has she lied to him about? For me, it’s just wrong. Also, Bernadette, it may have been nice to take him along, don’t you think? This doesn’t make her a very good wife.
Danielle: When Randall and Beth on This is Us were arguing about the adoption papers, I was like WTF Randall! He’d spent all of last episode trying to convince his wife to adopt another child — a baby, nonetheless — but when Beth suggested adopting an older kid, he freaks out? His perspective on adopting the same age when he was adopted makes sense, but why does it have to be a baby? Why can’t he give an older kid the love and support he/she needs? I thought that whole stance was kinda selfish, considering Beth didn’t want to adopt in the first place.
Lizzie: Where did Henry get gas to power that motorcycle in the Enchanted Forest? Also, am I supposed to believe that Emma, Regina AND Snow were basically like, yes Henry, why go to college, go to another realm and have adventures! Yeah, not buying that, Once Upon A Time.
Hannah: Honestly just so many aspects of The Good Place. I can never predict where the story is going to go but I love it.
Erin: The entire episode of Kevin Saves the World, but that’s fine. Cause I love the entire thing.
