Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Badass Female Character of the Week
Lizzie: Isobel Evans, from Roswell, New Mexico. Not because she’s healed, which no one can be so quickly, but because she’s not, but she’s still moving forward. Sometimes that’s all you can do.
Lyra: With Lizzie on this one. Isobel from Roswell, New Mexico had her entire life upheaved at the discovery that her husband was the 4th alien who had been killing people and who had taken advantage of Isobel’s body for years. Her talking to Noah was her confronting her abuser. And it’s HUGE. Sure, Isobel doesn’t have everything figured out. She now has to discover what kind of woman she is without Noah. But her confronting Noah, it matters. She’s confronting the pain of the lie that was there marriage and showing Noah that he isn’t going to destroy her. That’s fucking bravery.
Small side note on another character from Roswell, New Mexico who I’m proud of as well and who is pretty badass in my book. I’m talking about Jenna. Her stepping back and choosing what’s best for her and her sister, it takes balls. She has a life in Roswell. She has friends, colleagues, and for a while there she thought there was something special with Max. And at finding out that his affections lay elsewhere…well, she didn’t turn into the crazy jealous woman that TV has made us get used to. Max is still her friend. That’s why she protected him by firing her weapon at possessed Isobel and why she continues to protect him by not telling the Sheriff why she discharged her weapon. Thankfully the EP clarified that this isn’t the end of Jenna on Roswell, New Mexico.
McKenzie: Frankie from Whiskey Cavalier. In this week’s episode she got Will to trust her even after the revelation that she was going to kill him when they first met. She even shot him in the leg and another graze wound to sell herself as a “traitor” to their enemy.
OTP of the Week
Lyra: Raymond Holt and Kevin Cozner on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. These two…their unique. They have the driest sense of humor, are calculating kind of people, and will have your back to the moon and back if you enter into their good graces. Luckily for us, we are in their good graces and so are everyone on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This distinction of family and the things that Holt has been learning at the Nine-Nine has allowed him and Kevin to grow as husbands, companions, and as partners. In “The Bimbo” we got to see Holt in Kevin’s world. We got to see Holt’s doubts and learned that he thought he wasn’t good enough for Kevin. (Seriously, heartbreaking stuff right here that made me tear up when he explained this to Jake.) And through it all, Kevin had Holt’s back. He stood up to everyone in his department and made the biggest kerfuffle so EVERYBODY and their mama knows that Kevin appreciates, loves, and is in wow of his husband. If someone doesn’t like that, then they can go suck a lemon. Holt is precious to Kevin and the sentiment is returned.
Point is, we don’t see couples like Holt and Kevin. We don’t see older men who are gay, interracial, married, and just living their lives on TV. And we need more. I’m so ready for more. Because we, the people of the LGBTQ family, deserve to be seen, appreciated, and honored like every other straight couple that came before us. Also, check out the Brooklyn Nine-Nine Youtube. They made a Holt/Kevin fanvid and it’s amazing! Gotta love our two dads! Nine-Nine!
McKenzie: Arya and Gendry from Game of Thrones. We got their reunion this week and it was EVERYTHING. The flirting. The glances. The milady. These two better be together before they die, also preferably survive death.
Lizzie: What McKenzie said. GENDRYA FOR LIFE. I mean, I’ve only been hoping we’d get a callback to this for six seasons, not long or anything. Now can I just hope they both survive and we can get something resembling a happy ending. Please, Game of Thrones.
Moment That Made You Collapse Into a Puddle of FEELS
Lyra: Michael Guerin meeting and losing his mom in the span of an episode of Roswell, New Mexico. Dear Lord, just thinking about this scene, seeing pictures, or the gifs turns me into a crying mess. We’re never seen Michael smile like this, connect like this, or grieve like this. Everything that he had been looking for was right there in front of him. And it broke our hearts that he had to leave her behind after she told him what he’d always wanted to hear; that he was loved, that he wasn’t abandoned by choice, and that she was his family. That matters, that counts, and we’re not going to forget this heartbreaking scene for ages to come.
McKenzie: The reunion between Arya and Jon on Game of Thrones. So many feels and good call backs to season 1. You can see how much love for each other that they have and I may have teared up a time or two.
Lizzie: Both Stark reunions, on Game of Thrones. The Arya/Jon one was the obvious one, for the reasons McKenzie stated above, but Jon and Bran also gave me feels, you could literally see Jon’s love for his brother shining through. GAH.
Naomi: Michael from Roswell, New Mexico finding his mother locked in an alien experimentation facility. Him not realizing it was truly her until they touched hands through the glass was heartbreaking.
Grace: Quentin Coldwater has been the heart of The Magicians for four seasons. So as you can imagine, when he sacrificed himself to save all of his friends in the season finale, my soul was crushed. On top of that, his friends performing A-Ha’s “Take On Me” during his funeral completely wrecked me.
Quote of the Week
Lyra: “You’ve been so brave, wise, and strong by opening your door. Please Zari have courage now to wait for something more.” – Mona to Zari, Legends of Tomorrow
“I don’t look away, Guerin!” – Alex to Michael, Roswell, New Mexico
McKenzie: Sansa: “What do dragons eat anyway?”
Dany: “Whatever they want.” – Game of Thrones
Lizzie: Will: “I can’t believe you shot me.”
Frankie: “Oh suck it up, you said it was OK.” – Whiskey Cavalier
Grace: “You didn’t just save their lives, you changed their lives.” – Penny, The Magicians
WTF Moment of the Week
McKenzie: Bran from Game of Thrones sitting in the courtyard for over a day waiting on Jamie, just staring everyone down. The memes to come out of this moment have been fantastic. It was so in character, strange and odd that it was such a great moment. I’m still laughing about it.
Lizzie: Max pulling that gun on Michael, on Roswell, New Mexico. Max, my dude, we need to talk about your emotions. Or better yet, you should talk with a professional.
Lyra: With Lizzie on this one. Michael is your family Max. What are you doing?! Also, how dare Roswell, New Mexico not give us more Malex. They had this intense scene with so much pain and mourning and Alex and Kyle just let him go off into the day with no, “Hey, you good?” I don’t know. Felt like something was missing from “Creep.”
Gillian: There are times I forget that Station 19 is within the Grey’s Anatomy universe but then we have an episode like this past week’s. We have Hughes and Ripley discussing their future together and maybe getting married and then he collapses on the street! And she thinks that he stood her up! Ugh, I hate this kind of drama.
Naomi: Barry from The Flash taking Nora back to the future without letting her at least say goodbye to her mom. The scarlet speedster was COMPLETELY out of line.

What's Your Reaction?
Lyra enjoys loud mouthed, damaged characters, with a penchant for rescuing people and drinking their sorrows away. When she isn’t splurging on Netflix shows she’s not so quietly ranting about Teen Wolf, The Walking Dead, and Supernatural!
