FEELS OF THE WEEK: FEBRUARY 17th – FEBRUARY 23RD

Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.

So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:

Badass Female Character of the Week

dailycwsupergirl

Lariel: Nia Nal, Supergirl. True, she has a lot to learn. But I loved the way she stepped right up to help stop Menagerie. I can’t wait to see more of National City’s newest hero.

Lily: To echo Lariel, my pick is also Nia Nal this week from Supergirl. Her first hero moment reminded me so much of Kara’s first hero moment from the Pilot. It was a long time coming and even though she still needs serious training much like Kara did, she already has the heart of a hero. Everything else will come with time.

Kayla: Mina Okafor, The Resident. This week, Mina put her personal feelings aside and asked her estranged mother to come from Nigeria and help her operate on her friend, Adaku, who had an aggressive form of breast cancer. By the end of the visit, though, Mina not only had told her mother she was done with her, but she needed a shoulder to cry on. Through it, Mina learned not only is it ok to be emotional, but that family doesn’t have to be blood. That’s why she makes this section this week. ALL THE AWARDS FOR SHAUNETTE’S PERFORMANCE!

Lyra: Maria Salazar from Deadly Class. The actresses performance was spot on and I felt it down to my bones. As someone who does suffer from mental health issues, it’s heartbreaking and eye-opening at the same time to see such a true, raw, and ground shaking portrayal on TV. So, thank you Maria Gabriela de Faria and everyone at Deadly Class. What you did mattered to me and I bet it matters to the people all over the world who watch this show and who live with bipolar disorder too.

OTP of the Week

Lizzie: Marcos and Lorna, on The Gifted. They’ve been through a lot, these two. At times, it’s felt like they’d never get back here. But even when they lost hope in the world, even when they didn’t see a way back to each other, their love never wavered. And love is the reason the Mutant Underground still has a chance.

Lily: Beth and Randall’s meet cute in the flashback to the Freshman mixer on This Is Us. We’ve always heard Randall’s take on seeing Beth for the first time. To actually see it though…. It blew away all my expectations. It was so sweet. And it reminded me a lot of Jack and Rebecca’s first meeting. This was definitely love at first sight.

Kayla: Mina and AJ, The Resident. This week I had amazing feels for AJ and Mina. At the end of the episode, AJ finds Mina hiding from the world in an empty OR. She admits to him the issues she has with her mother and the relationship she wishes they could’ve had. AJ not only listens to Mina, but shares with her his story of being adopted. He is the listening ear and the shoulder Mina needed this week. He also reminds Mina that family doesn’t have to be blood and that he and the others around her at Chastain will always appreciate her. I love them so much already, and I’m ready to see where they go, because we all know Mina won’t be marrying Micah.

Moment That Made You Collapse Into a Puddle of FEELS

Gillian: Everything from this week’s This is Us. Beth is honestly one of my favorite characters on the show and I’m surprised at how little we knew about her prior to this episode. As someone with a slightly overbearing mother, I totally felt those scenes (and Phylicia Rashad can do no wrong!) But what I loved best was learning about her passion for dance. And how she wanted to break barriers, which would eventually be broken in the real world by Misty Copeland. And how she felt she failed at her dream, lost her father, and was pushed into a different life. I feel even more connected to her now and I really hope Susan Kelechi Watson gets some award recognition for this episode.

Lizzie: Basically every second of this week’s The Gifted, from John remembering Clarice to Lorna not bailing, but instead sticking around to talk some sense into Andy, to Reed using his powers to save his family, to Reed confessing to Andy that he murdered someone, so if Andy was a monster, so was he, to Andy coming back to his family and Lorna to Marcos, and that’s without even going into John hugging Lorna and all of them standing there, at the end, ready to battle the Inner Circle. I’m going to go cry in a corner for a second, okay? I need it.

Lariel: I’m going to echo Lizzie here on The Gifted. And it’s pretty personal for me. When I wasn’t much older than Lauren, my younger brother ran away from home. He was gone for a month. It was a hellish time for my whole family, and when he came home we were overjoyed. I felt it when the Struckers were reunited. But that family will still have a lot of work to do to get past the problems that led Andy away at first.

Lily: I’m with Gillian. This episode of This Is Us was solid. But specifically the parts with Beth’s dad after they found out he had lung cancer. It’s so unfair that Beth lost her dad to lung cancer because he wasn’t even a smoker. It’s also a little ironic because Randall lost his own father due to smoke inhalation. These two lost their dads around the same time under circumstances that should not have happened. It almost makes you mad at the world because bad shit happens to good people all the time and that is so frustrating.

Kayla: Agreeing with Gillian and Lily. This Is Us brings all the feels. I cried when Beth’s dad died. Or was it was because it was Carl Lumbly that played him? His performance on any show he’s in seems to make me bawl my eyes out.

William Shatner was FINALLY on The Big Bang Theory. After 12 seasons, he FINALLY made a guest appearance on a show that has referenced him and Captain Kirk more times than I can care to count. It’s crazy considering he’s been working with Kaley Cuoco for years doing commercials for Priceline. Also, Kevin Smith’s guest appearance was another much needed one on this show before it ends in May. PUDDLE OF FEELS!

Moment That Gave You Hope

twitter

Kayla: On The Resident, that Bell FINALLY gets that Quovadis is a fraud! Sadly, it took that Henry almost died for him to FINALLY come to that conclusion. He’s been questioning it for a while now, but he’s FINALLY agreeing that Quovadis needs to be shut down, along with every other doctor and nurse on this show! BRING THEM DOWN! I’m so ready to see justice for the people who have suffered at Gordon Page’s greed.

Lariel: I was originally going to double-dip on The Gifted – I now have hope of seeing Clarice again. But thinking more about it, I’ve got another one of those “this sounds mean” observations. The moment? The James/Lena breakup on Supergirl. For the second time in two weeks, an Arrowverse show jettisoned something that just wasn’t working. My hope is that it can be repeated with things that just aren’t working in other Arrowverse shows.

Lily: This is a weird pick for me this week but the moment that Maggie hugged Parker after being saved on Charmed. Also, the ending when she told him that she doesn’t hate him. This ship sort of snuck up on me but I’m definitely rooting for them.

Charles: I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine and one of my favorite things on there is whenever Holt and Jake team-up. This week’s episode was just more proof of how good the show is and how much fun this pairing is. From Jake trying to convince Holt to spy on his new assistant to Holt mentioning how he watched a Thomas Cruise movie to come up with Operation Triple Dragon*, this show reminded me once again how funny this show is every damn week.

WTF Moment of the Week

sisterzelda

Lizzie: One Day At A Time showrunner Gloria Calderon Kellet tweeted this week about how Netflix still wasn’t sure about renewing the show, the clearest WTF moment in the whole time I’ve been filling out this category. SERIOUSLY, Netflix?

Lyra: One Day at a Time possibly not being renewed for season 4. Just…I can’t understand how?! This show is funny, relevant, and hits at so many topics that other shows are afraid. ODAAT is a success in story telling because of it’s POC representation, veteran representation, and queer representation. We need more of that. NOT LESS. MORE!

Also, how boring The Walking Dead has become. Seriously? This is what this show has ended up being? After almost a decade watching this show, I think I might be at the end of my line. The only thing that made me remotely happy with this show is the fact that Norman and Melissa are doing an episode of Ride with Norman together. Oh and Lauren Cohan aka Maggie. Girl is on Whiskey Cavalier, premiering this week. Watch it as a means of soothing your soul from everything on The Walking Dead!

Lily: Parker’s dad using Lucy to spy on Parker and Maggie on Charmed. At first I thought they were actually working together to reunite them for his nefarious plan but then it was obvious that Lucy is totally under his mind control. She really is the perfect trojan horse for him. This is so messed up. Not even Lucy deserves this. What an evil bastard!

Charles: The Orville’s episode freaked me out (But in a good way!) From finding out that Issac’s home world is basically a bunch of murdering robots to the crew being soundly defeated, The Orville was unpredictable and had me at the edge of my seat the whole time.
