Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Badass Female Character of the Week
Grace: Margo Hanson, The Magicians. This season has proven to be THE season for the (now former) High King of Fillory. But nothing has been truly better than watching Margo accept her banishment by walking out of the castle to Pat Benatar’s “We Belong”. I don’t think I’ve loved Margo more than in that moment.
Lariel: Barbara Kean, Gotham. Who else would shoot her way out of danger in the middle of childbirth? And do it in incredible style, with spike heels? The entire scenario was deliciously ridiculous and a perfect fit for this show.
Jasmine: Going with Saya on the season finale of Deadly Class (just watched). She basically led the charge on setting up the plan to go after Chester and his gang. Marcus didn’t even want to go in without her which meant she was an extremely important asset to their team.
Lyra: For me it’s a tie between Maria DeLuca from Roswell, New Mexico and Susan from Whiskey Cavalier. Both are women of color who are saving themselves, open to kindness from others, and willing to learn to better shape their future. They’re the kind of women I want to be like and be surrounded by. Also, they’re stunning. Seriously, every time they’re on screen I’m blushing, twirling my hair with my finger, and going, “Woah. Uhhh. Hi. How you doing?” I have no regrets.
OTP of the Week
Jasmine: Definitely 100% going with Liz and Max in this weeks episode of Roswell New Mexico, on this one! My ECHO heart was re-warmed the moment I watched them finally kiss during their trip to Texas.
Janelle: I’m with Jasmine! Echo’s first kiss was filmed beautifully and it is so special that the original Liz, Shiri Appleby, is the one who directed the episode. Now I’m excited to see the boot knocking! They said no more waiting.
Gillian: Gonna go a little OT3 here. I loved Michael and Maria hooking up on Roswell, New Mexico this week! As a fan of the original series, Michael and Maria were my OTP and while I accept the changes made to the reboot in regard to this, I still love every second they’re together. Michael is the bicycle on this show and he deserves all the love he can get! I also really enjoyed the Malex scene this week even if it wasn’t as hot and heavy as Michael and Maria or previous weeks. I think they do need to have serious conversations even if it’s going to end in heartbreak. Please don’t break Michael’s heart anymore guys!
Naomi: Roswell, New Mexico’s Maria and Michael were my pick for this week’s OTP. From the all night super cute flirting to the down and dirty deed, the chemistry of these two couldn’t be stronger. I have to agree a bit with Gillian in that I could have gone for the big three of Alex, Michael and Maria. Seriously, I have never felt so not torn about a tv pairing! If Michael ends up with either of them, the show would not skip a beat. It takes some hellified writing and acting to pull that off. Carina Adly Mackinzie, Michael Vlamis, Heather Hemmens and Tyler Blackburn keep doin’ the damn thang!
Lariel: Supergirl’s BraiNia for me. I just think they are adorable. Now, if the 12th-level intellect would just get his head out of his ass.
Moment That Made You Collapse Into a Puddle of FEELS
Kayla: At the end of this week’s The Resident, when Conrad shows up at Quovadis headquarters and is searching for his dad after the shootout with the FBI with fear that he’s dead, you fear everything he is feeling. You see it with his POV. It’s a sigh of relief when Marshall says Conrad’s name and you see him sitting in the back of an ambulance, no worse for wear. THAT HUG DURING THEIR REUNION IS ALL THE FEELS. This father/son relationship is my favorite, and this episode shows how far Conrad and Marshall have truly come from when Marshall was introduced in season 1. I NEED MORE OF THESE TWO!
Naomi: Michael Guerin+Cowboy Hat=Nuff Said
Gillian: Not necessarily a good feeling but Gretchen’s breakdown to Edgar about feeling like a failure on You’re the Worst this week hit me hard. I’ve always identified most with the character of Gretchen (without the diagnosis) and everything is really going downhill for her. It’s not looking good for her and Jimmy as an endgame but mostly, I want her to be healthy because then I can feel like it’s going to be okay for me too.
Jasmine: Going with the finale of Deadly class (Just watched) on this one again. When Master Lins daughter Nahia was taken away by Gao. It was so sad to watch because she had just lost her mother, then to be taken from her father was just too much!
Moment That Gave You Hope
Lariel: The advent of Lex Luthor on Supergirl. Jon Cryer is just killing it in this role and making the show interesting again. My interest in CW’s DCTV shows has been waning a bit this season, for various reasons ranging from stories to overall directions to the fanbases. Lex is reviving my interest in Supergirl.
Kayla: Gordon Page’s fiery end on The Resident. I don’t normally cheer for a character to rot in hell for the rest of eternity, but Gordon Page deserves just that. Karma is a bitch, Gordon, and you were served tons of it in a blaze of flaming glory. That wreck is not survivable. The writers made sure that not only did his car roll a crazy amount of times, but that it blew up in a scene that worthy of a Hollywood movie. There’s no surviving that. It provided me hope because it helps bring justice to his bad deeds. All the people he hurt and killed, or tried to. Those people and their families deserve justice for what was done. Justice served. Where to from here?
Jasmine: Liz’s speech to Max on Roswell New Mexico. When she let him know if their situations were reversed, she would have done the same to protect her sister. It showed that she was making an effort to forgive him and it also showed how much she actually does still care for him.
Quote of the Week
Gillian: “Does anyone have a chainsaw because what the…” -Cheryl Blossom, Riverdale
Jasmine: “I hate secrets but sex secrets are the exception.” – Michael, Roswell New Mexico
Lyra: “Babushka!!!!” – Brooklyn Nine-Nine
WTF Moment of the Week
Kayla: Randall’s attitude on this week’s This Is Us. What is wrong with you? I get that meeting was important, but give your wife some credit. Beth is better than that! Seriously, Randall. You earned this WTF! Next time, put more trust in Beth Pearson. She always comes through.
Gillian: This week’s The Rookie had a character death that I am not okay with. I mean, I know it’s a cop show so these characters are never really safe but still. It kind of came out of nowhere and it’s not sitting right with me.
Charles: On Riverdale , Betty’s solution to everything now is setting things on fire apparently. Seriously this is now the second place she has set on fire in the last three episodes! I get that you are fighting a drug trade and a cult but these solutions need a bit of work.
Jasmine: And I’m going with the season finale of Deadly class (just watched) again because it’s always full of them. I’m going with the last part of the episode when El Diablo showed up at Shabnams house and found Maria, and Marcus with Chicos head then something very bad happened to Lex…. I seriously hope there’s a season two because WTF??????
Janelle: On Crazy Ex-Girlfriend this week Valencia was shocked to find out that she could propose to her girlfriend. That is preposterous. Valencia is a grown ass woman who plans weddings. Of course she knows that she can propose and the fact that this is presented like Valencia just realized it is an insult to her intelligence and progress.
