Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows & movies that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Badass Female Character of the Week
Ashley: I think it’s one thing to attack, but it’s another, greater thing to defend. For that reason, I’m going to say Arya Stark on Game of Thrones is my BA female character for the week in her attempts to protect the smallfolk in King’s Landing. I also applaud her choice to stop seeking revenge. That’s a difficult choice to make, and no matter how much I hoped she’d take out Cersei, I was glad to see her take the high road.
Lariel: I’m probably going to be saying this all through Agents of SHIELD’s delayed season: Melinda May. Ming-Na Wen and I are the same age, and I will forever be envious of her abilities while also rejoicing in her proof that you don’t have to be under 35 to be a kickass warrior.
Jasmine: Diana on A Discovery of Witches. Even while she was being tortured by Satu she never gave in and told her what she wanted to know. Then when she flew out of that hole to get to Matthew, I thought that was pretty badass.
Erica: Selina Meyer, Veep. We saw our last episode ever Sunday night and it was great. Selina might be a narcissist and a little bit evil but she is one hell of a badass and she proved that in the series finale. She gave us just a little bit of vulnerability before she slayed everyone and everything in her path to get win the presidency. I wanted to be her during the entire second half of the finale! Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be missed as Selina Meyer but she went out like a queen!
OTP of the Week
Jasmine: Diana and Matthew in A Discovery of Witches because they are just so good together and would literally die for one another.
Lizzie: I’m going to agree with Jasmine on this one, Bishmont is the stuff OTPs are made off, and though Diana saved herself, Matthew is her unfailing support, and that’s just hot.
Ashley: Jake and Amy made me go “Awwwwww,” in this week’s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine with their sneaky kiss and Charles’ dismay at missing it.
Erica: Sharpwin (as always), New Amsterdam. I’m aware Georgia gave birth to her and Max’s child and that she hasn’t died…yet, but Max and Helen are endgame. Now, they better not kill Helen off before season two comes back because I will riot. My prediction is that they didn’t show Helen to scare us but there’s no way Georgia survived that crash after all she went through in that finale. So, I’m still putting all my eggs in the Sharpwin basket because I KNOW they are meant to be.
Moment That Made You Collapse Into a Puddle of FEELS
Lariel: Some really tough choices this week. But for me, it was the erasure of Nora WestAllen on The Flash. Yes, she messed up time and time again, and who knows what other long-term consequences there will be to the timeline. But still, for Barry and Iris to lose their daughter that way was a heartbreaker.
Ashley: While I have so many problems with and unbridled rage towards this week’s episode of Game of Thrones, I will say that little scene of brotherly love that Jaime and Tyrion shared made me tear up a little. I love me some Lannister Brothers.
Grace: This week’s episode of Supergirl was a long time coming. I have been waiting for what seems like forever for Alex to regain her memories of Kara being Supergirl. And as Supergirl comes face-to-face with Red Daughter, Alex is finally able to remember everything. Of course, the second she remembers, Supergirl is dying and the only thing Alex can do is plead for her to come back. I definitely teared up once Kara came back to life and told Alex how much she missed her. It’s about damn time.
McKenzie: This week’s episode of FBI was full of feels. More specifically though for Maggie. Her husband was murdered and she finally got vindication when she arrested the person responsible for ordering the hit on him. It really helped that Maggie got to punch her in the face before hand.
Jasmine: Going with Ashley on this one. Tyrion and Jamie on Game of Thrones sharing that hug got me. You could feel that they knew they would never see each other again and that was so sad to watch. Jamie has always been there for Tyrion so seeing them say goodbye tore my heart to pieces.
Erica: Cisco leaving, The Flash. I’m hella mad that Cisco is leaving and I don’t feel like they did a very good job handling it. Like, he just took the cure and left without saying anything to anyone but Caitlin? It did not make a lot of sense but sometimes The Flash does that. What got me in the FEELS was what he left for Caitlin. Y’all, he made her a Killer Frost suit! I got so emotional because I didn’t even realize she didn’t have a suit but Cisco took care of her. And that’s why he shouldn’t be leaving because he is the glue that holds Team Flash together!
Quote of the Week
Lyra: “I got this one red door I’ve never been able to open and I hear screams behind it sometimes. But it’s probably just the wind.” Scully, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Ashley: “Thank you, Sandor.” – Arya Stark, Game of Thrones
McKenzie: “I want to eat the skull keeper.” – Tyrion Lannister, Game of Thrones
Jasmine: “You won’t go after Satu. I’ll deal with her myself.” Diana, A Discovery of Witches
Erica: “Please don’t make me get down on one knee. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get back up.” Dr. Charles, Chicago Med
WTF Moment of the Week
Ashley: The entire episode of Game of Thrones has basically had me saying WTF all week. You know you done messed up when you’ve got a room full of 12-14 nerds and every single one of us says, “What the heck was that?!” It’s especially telling when no two of us agree on the endgame for the series and NO ONE IN THE ROOM IS HAPPY. When that many nerds agree, you know you’re in trouble.
Lizzie: Though the entirety of Game of Thrones is a WTF moment, I ranted enough about that in the Game of Thrones roundtable, so I’m going to go with ABC’s decision to cancel Whiskey Cavalier. Why can’t we have good things, ABC? Why?
Lariel: Last week’s Game of Thrones made more sense to me than the penultimate episode of Legends of Tomorrow. GoT was simply a disaster movie that should have been cut by 45 minutes. Legends… Well, I’ve been having trouble figuring out what they’re doing for most of the back half of this season. It’s really been painful to watch, which is awful for what had been my favorite show. I’m holding out hope because the finale synopsis teases some kind of big change for the Legends going into Season 5. I hope it’s a good one. I have no interest in continuing to watch whatever the hell this thing is with the Legends name on it.
McKenzie: Obviously keeping the theme with everyone else here, Game of Thrones. It was just a hot mess. If you want a more in depth analysis head on over to our roundtable for the episode titled “The Bells.”
Jasmine: I mean I have to agree. Game of Thrones for sure! When Dany went Mad Queen and went after the innocent townspeople in king’s Landing after the bells rang I was screaming at my TV “Dany stop it!” And she just kept going!! Like DUDE WTF????
Erica: The last moments on Barry. So Fuches tricked Gene to come with him to the woods to get back at Barry for quitting their work and in the last moment he has a gun to Gene’s head. Barry is literally running through the woods to get there in time, but WTF? Henry Winkler plays Gene and he’s the best ever so if he dies…I’ll be devastated. I can’t deal with that possibility and I will write fanfic to fix it if he gets killed.
