Though a Star Wars: Rogue one appearance has yet to be confirmed for San Diego Comic-Con (pretty please, we’re begging), Star Wars does have a long history with SDCC, so despite rumors to the contrary, we expect it to be there. And, if they are, well, we’ve got some things we’d love to see.
Star Wars: Rogue One is, ostensibly, a stand-alone movie, set before the events of the original film (Star Wars: A New Hope). The plot focuses on a group of rebel heroes coming together on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.
Don’t you just have a gazillion questions about that? I know we do!
So, here are the five things we hope to see from Star Wars: Rogue One at San Diego Comic-Con:
The film’s star, Felicity Jones, in character as Jyn Erso.
Star Wars has given us many iconic, strong female characters, but Jyn Erso is the first one highlighting a movie, and we want to know all about her. Who is she? How did she end up with the rebellion? Where is this aggressiveness that the official description mentions coming from?
And, more importantly, does she have any connection to Rey and/or the rest of our well-known heroes.
Cameos, cameos, cameos.
All right, we don’t have to see them, but could they at least be announced? We’re not even asking for the big ones, like Luke Skywalker, because that just doesn’t make sense, but there is a younger Han Solo in production, and Alden Ehrenreich has already been cast to play him, so an appearance would make sense. But hey, even if we can’t get Han Solo we’d be pretty happy to at least get a glimpse or two of the Emperor. Darth Vader maybe? Something? Anything!
Diego Luna/Donnie Yen
Who are they playing? Why don’t we know more about them? Why all the secrecy? Is it to create hype? Because it’s working. Will Diego Luna’s character speak with an accent? Is the new era of diversity in Star Wars films here to stay? Can I stop asking questions?
Some new footage
This is, after all, San Diego Comic-Con. The film has already wrapped. We’ve seen precious little of what’s coming. And yes, Star Wars brings hype just because it’s Star Wars, but we wouldn’t mind seeing a little more. Of course we wouldn’t. Hell, we’ll even take some behind-the-scenes footage if that’s all they want to give us. As long as we get something!
More focus on the badass female characters
Rey was the hero of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Jyn Erso is the main character in Star Wars: Rogue one. That means the franchise is finally committing to giving little girls a whole variety of characters to look up to. Now, we need to see it in all aspects of the marketing, be it toys, posters and/or just bringing these characters in contact with fans. We want to love them, after all. We just need Disney to let us.
Star Wars: Rogue One opens nationwide on December 16th, 2016.
