The Maze Runner is full of non-stop action, from the tension-filled environment within the Glade after Thomas and Teresa’s arrival to the mysterious, shifting corridors of the Maze and the terrifying Grievers that make it their home. However, it is the characters that take the main focus in this deleted scene from the movie, which MTV exclusively revealed today.
Minho (Ki Hong Lee) gives Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) some more details about the Maze and lays out a strategy for their run (Thomas’ first). It’s clear that the Keeper of the Runners knows the Maze inside and out, and he makes the danger of the Grievers and the outer sections of the Maze very clear. As the boys head out of the Glade, Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) makes an appearance, giving Thomas an update on the condition of one of the Gladers. This is a more overtly romantic moment than any we see in the final film (Minho asks, “Do you two need a minute?”), which may be part of the reason it was cut. As director Wes Ball and many of the actors have said, this film truly does not need a romantic subplot–there simply isn’t time. However, we do appreciate being able to watch this interesting, character-driven scene now–it will also appear on the DVD, out Tuesday (December 16).
