‘Grey’s Anatomy’ 14×15 Review: Old Scars, Future Hearts

By

The heart wants what the heart wants. Go after it and don’t let it scare you.

That was pretty much this theme on this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy. It centers around ‘what would you do for love?’

I enjoyed ‘Old Scares, Future Hearts’ because it had some good flashbacks. And mainly because most of the flashbacks centered around Jo and Alex’s past as teenagers. Seeing a young quirky Maggie was entertaining as well. There were some huge moments in this episode, and I would sure like to highlight them all.

Meredith and Maria

Okay, that turned sad, wouldn’t you say? As Meredith confronts Ellis Grey’s long-time friend Cerene about her history with her mom, we learn more about that story. She was basically Ellis’ ‘Christina’. Her person. Maria couldn’t get her credit when she believed that she deserved it long ago, so now she’s not trying to miss her shot.

Unfortunately for Meredith, she feels like she needs more proof of Maria’s story. Mer isn’t going to get played again. However, it’s understandable that she feels skeptical about her story. I wonder if she’ll find someone else to help her further advance with this project of hers. Or maybe Maria might come back? Everything feels in the air for now.

April’s Crisis of Faith Has Been Recognized

April and Tom share more than just a one night stand. As he refuses to leave her place without figuring out what’s wrong with her, he eventually finds out. Only for him to spill a secret of his as well. That he lost his 10-year-old son due to a freak accident. This is…interesting. April lost her first child as well. I think she might tell him that later on.

But the fact that he was giving her a sense of hope felt uplifting. The way the show is going about April’s crisis of faith is really getting in there. Putting April at her lowest, but it feels like we will eventually get her back on her feet soon enough. I hope. But this profound new connection that just appeared with Tom doesn’t seem all that bad. They can help each other, he’s been through the roughness of feeling lost and alone, so he gets it. I remember how I said I was really annoyed by his character, but some people really do know how to shelter in their true self with humor and rowdiness.

Maggie and Jackson

All I gotta say is their interactions have been hilarious so far. When Maggie says “I’m grood, I’m grood.” I lost it with laughter. So awkward, yet so funny. Let’s just see how this thing goes between them because they definitely seem to be having all the feels for each other.

ALEX AND JO ARE ENGAGED

You guys, you don’t understand how happy this made me. F I N A L L Y.

Oh gosh, just when I thought I couldn’t love Alex Karev even more, this episode proved me wrong. Those flashbacks of Alex and Jo just nailed it shut of how much they are meant to be. Alex deserves all the happiness in the world and I’m so glad Jo is the perfect one for him. She’s always been better than Izzie to me. Seeing Alex being made fun of by a girl that he liked when he was a teen because of his mom’s hallucinations broke my heart. Alex was too precious back then, he just grew a lot of thick skin over the years.

Then with Jo, she was always used to running away, even from a guy that genuinely really liked her because that’s what she was used to. But now with Alex, it’s so much different.

The way she proposed to Alex was absolutely beautiful. It definitely gave me Monica and Chandler vibes from Friends when Monica proposed to him! The candlelit room and everything! Jo broke it down so well, I even got teary-eyed.

“I’ve always thought there was something wrong with me, and I’ve always wanted to run. Until I met you. You’re so screwed up that you make me make sense. You and me, we just fit. And I don’t want to leave you, Alex…You are my home. And you are my heart. Alex Karev, will you marry me?”

I’m not crying, you are.

Actually no wait, I am.

I’m so excited to see Alex and Jo take this next step further. I’ve been like the number one fan of Alex since Day 1 and he is the sheer definition of character development in my eyes.
