Yes, I am aware that in the land of Harry Styles, fans don’t usually take well to anything less than blind praise when it comes to their beloved. Don’t get me wrong…I am a Harry fan through and through. But I am not one of those fans who believes he can do no wrong, walks on water, and is the be-all-end-all of anything fabulous. He is a person, and while I adore him, there have been times his fashion choices have made me cringe.
Take last night for example. It was enough that Harry was about to appear at his first ever Met Gala, the ‘it’ event in all things fashion and fabulous. But he was also co-chair, along side Lady Gaga, Serena Williams and the iconic Anna Wintour. In the days and weeks leading up to the event, there was much speculation as to what Styles would wear on this night. With the ‘Camp’ theme for the evening, there was really not much in the way of limits, and Styles is already well known for his boundary pushing fashion choices.
During his debut solo world tour, it was almost as much fun for fans to see what Harry would wear as it was to watch him perform. From bolero jackets with fringe, to black jump suits and pink suits, his wardrobe was a kaleidoscope of color, sequins and delight. Not all choices were a hit, but there were very few which could be considered a miss.
Lady Gaga easily stole the show with multiple outfit changes during her entrance, which felt more like a performance than the typical red (or in this case, pink) carpet walk. From puffy pink with retro cell phone to glittered black bra and boy short mix, Gaga held nothing back. Katie Perry showed up channelling her inner Lumiere a la Beauty and the Beast, with candle sticks adorned across her headpiece and skirt.
But let’s get back to Styles, shall we. We all had ideas what he would wear…and he has shown that he loves color and flash. So when he stepped out in a pirate-esque puffy sheer shirt and corset waisted paints, accessorized with a single tear drop pearl earring (that I swear to God he got from my Gran), many were a little surprised. Wearing the Gucci ensemble, he strutted his stuff proving why regardless of if you like his fashion, you can’t deny his charisma. The boy is style and class all the way, looking sexy no matter what.
Many media outlets have had mixed reactions to the outfit choice. Some sung his praises, others….not so much.
