? This could be the start of something new… ?
Can you believe it has been 11 years since Disney Channel first graced our lives with the existence of High School Musical?
Since the cinematic release of High School Musical 3: Senior Year back in 2008, there have been frequent rumours surrounding the future of the franchise. But after all this time, we figured it was time to accept to accept that our time at East High was over.
That is, until now..
We all knew that Disney are planning to launch their own streaming site, right? But, far from just featuring existing content, they have also revealed that they will be investing in the creation of brand new content for their subscribers.
As if that news wasn’t exciting enough on its own, these plans are said to include a High School Musical TV series!!!
Whilst it is unlikely that Zac Efron and co. would be reprising their much-loved roles, the mere existence of more High School Musical is enough to fill our hearts with joy. And who knows, they might be up for a cameo?
The streaming site is expected to launch by the end of 2019, with a Star Wars series and a Monsters Inc animated series also said to be in the works.
In addition to this, Disney CEO Bob Iger has shared that they are planning to produce four to five original movies a year for the streaming service, in addition to these series.
With all of this to look forward to, and the price expected to be substantially lower than Netflix’s monthly rate, we already know that we’ll be one of the first to sign up. Is it 2019 yet?
