Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy is coming to BBC One and HBO later this year, and we now have our first glimpse at the adaptation, and boy, are we getting excited.
“We’re keeping our daemons close,” the BBC One Twitter account proclaimed, as it shared the first teaser.
Oscar-winning director Tom Hopper is involved with the series, and the teaser provides us with a first look at Dafne Keen in the titular role of Lyra, as well as Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, Clarke Peters as The Master, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby.
The series was adapted once before, in the 2007 movie The Golden Compass, which failed to enchant audiences and never got the promised sequels. The BBC announced this 8-part adaptation in 2015, promising to stick close to the source material. Filming ended last December, leaving fans desperate to get a glimpse of what was coming.
Well, the glimpse, and a little more is here, and I, for one, can’t wait till we get a date, and of course, more!
