Players of the Week – NFL Week 4

No, we still don’t know what’s happening in the NFL. Week 4 was wild. But then again, so was week 1 and week 2 and week 3. We literally stare at the scores every week and go wait …what? But, along with the unexpected results, we’ve had some breakout performances that have truly blown us away, and we can try to celebrate those as we make sense – or try to, of the rest of what’s going on in this crazy year in the league.

Here are our NFL Players of the Week for Week 4:

AFC

Offensive Player: Deshaun Watson, QB, Houston Texans

Watson tied a rookie NFL record with 5 TDs and the offense put up 57 points, but, most importantly, thanks to this performance, the Texans finally put Brock Osweiler behind and took a firm step towards becoming the kind of team they thought they were going to be when they signed him.

Defensive Player: The injuries

Yes, the Broncos did a hell of a job, but it’s easier if Derek Carr is injured. Maybe if Mariota is there the Titans can do more than what they managed against the Texans defense. Either way, the injuries were crucial.

NFC

Offensive Player: Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

For the first time in what feels like forever, Cam Newton looked like Superman, leading the Panthers to a win against the New England Patriots. Let’s hope that Cam is finally able to shake off those nagging injuries and  return to the level he showed during the 2015 season.

Defensive Player: Detroit Lions Defense

One week after losing a heartbreaker of a game, the Lions, and especially the defense, came out to play, and they dominated the Vikings in a game that puts them as one of the best in the NFC.
