Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 isn’t even out yet, and there is already updates for the third installment. On his Facebook page, director James Gunn announced that he would be writing and directing the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, making him the first filmmaker to tackle three MCU films in a row.
It’s no secret that the first Guardians of the Galaxy film was a huge risk. The property was virtually unknown to casual movie goers, and Gunn only had two indie films under his belt. However, it smashed expectations and quickly became a part of the MCU family.
It’s hard to think about anyone else directing Guardians of the Galaxy. Gunn’s signature style is one of the reasons why this movie is so fun. Who else could come up with an eccentric soundtrack and make the audience fall in love with a talking raccoon and tree? I’m always open for new directors take on big budget films, but I’m also okay with Guardians belonging to Gunn. It’ Marvel’s most unique property, and it would be a mistake to change styles so far in the game.
Maybe when Gunn is eventually finished with Guardians, perhaps he could take on a smaller DCEU character. He would make a great Swamp Thing film.
