For those of you who don’t know Joe Alwyn, we have a feeling he might just become a household name after Boy Erased.
The movie, which has just began filming in Atlanta, is a coming of age and coming out drama from writer/director Joel Edgerton, based on Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family by Garrard Conley.
Alongside relative newcomer Alwyn, the cast includes Academy Award® nominee Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea), Academy Award® winners Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman, Joel Edgerton¸ Emmy and Tony Award® winner Cherry Jones, Grammy Award® winner Michael “Flea” Balzary from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Xavier Dolan, singer/songwriter and YouTube personality Troye Sivan, Emily Hinkler, Jesse LaTourette, David Joseph Craig, Théodore Pellerin, Madelyn Cline, and Britton Sear.
Boy Erased tells the story of Jared, the son of a Baptist pastor in a small town who is outed by his parents at age 19, and then given an ultimatum: attend a gay conversion program or leave, forever. It is based on Garrard Conley’s memoir, which was published last year,
Boy Erased is set to be released in 2018, though no exact date has yet been announced.
