When we last left the Legends, the team had conquered the threat of Mallus thanks to a powered-up toy named Beebo. Their vacation was interrupted, though, by the newest member of the team, John Constantine. Seems the Legends left behind quite a few magical messes in their battle with Mallus.
As we head into season 4, many questions are still out there for Legends of Tomorrow. New teammates, new challenges and a uncertain future await our team of Legends. So with San Diego Comic-Con only days away, here are five questions we want answered about the upcoming season.
1. How will Constantine interact with his new teammates?
Adding John Constantine (Matt Ryan) as a Season 4 regular was well received by fans and critics alike. But how will he blend in on the Waverider? His character is a bit of a loner, and that is the polar opposite of the Legends. We’ve seen him together with Sara, but not so much with the other members of the team. Will his presence add a new bit of fun to Legends of Tomorrow or a new sense of danger?
2. What’s next for AvaLance? What new ships will emerge?
At the end of season 3, Ava and Sara (Caity Lotz) looked to be back on strong footing with their relationship, but what awaits them in Season 4? With Jes Macallan also added as a regular, we should get a lot more opportunities to see the AvaLance pairing grow. But will Ava’s past and Sara’s fears doom their growing relationship?
As for other pairings– Courtney Ford is also a regular now. Could we see Nora Darhk and Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) become a couple? The seeds were planted just a little bit last season, so there is room for it to grow. After all, chemistry should be no problem between Ford and Routh, who are married.
3. How is Maisie Richardson-Sellers coming back?
In the season finale, Amaya was taken back to her time (1941) to set her timeline back into motion. Lots of people thought this meant she was gone from the show, but it was announced that Maisie Richardson-Sellers would still be a series regular on Legends. So…..how? Could Amaya have to come back for some reason to help the Legends again? A lookalike character? Another superhero ancestor? Earth-2? This must be addressed at SDCC.
4. Who will be the Big Bad for season 4?
As the new season is on the horizon, a new villain is going to plague our Legends. It’s just the way it is. So with magic being the key influence over Season 4, how will this factor into who will terrorize the Legends? DC can draw on many magical villains from its history. A name that comes to mind is Felix Faust, a sorcerer from 5000 B.C. He’s been a thorn in the side of many heroes in the DC universe over the years. With the right casting, Faust could be a perfect pain in the rear end for the Legends of Tomorrow.
5. How long can Legends maintain its lighter side?
Ever since season 2, Legends has leaned more towards lighthearted and wacky adventures instead of the serious ones that were heavy in Season 1. While this has lead to renewed interest in the show, how long can they maintain this without going too far out there? There’s a very good chance that they can walk this line for a long while, but what happens if fans get tired of the silliness? However the opposite could be asked too: Can Legends go dark without alienating the fans who are there only for the lightheartedness? This is something the writers of the show will have to wrestle with.
Legends of Tomorrow will appear at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday at 5pm in Ballroom 20. Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 premieres Monday, Oct. 22 at 9/8c on The CW.
