When it comes to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the beauty about its focal time travel element is that it allows our characters to travel to and exist within certain times. Whether that’s getting a glimpse into the future or traveling back to the past, we’ve seen these characters based in 2016 travel to different points in history. It’s definitely part of the major appeal of the show, and it also allows the producers and writers to have a little fun with history as they weave their own story.
We’ve seen Legends of Tomorrow tackle past time periods including the 1970s, Ancient Egypt, and the Wild West. So with the new season on the horizon, of course we’re thinking ahead to the possibilities of different time periods our group might stop by during their new journey.
While the future is cool and all there’s nothing like traveling back in time to the past where significant moments in this world’s history have occurred. It adds a little something extra when there’s a certain risk as to what could happen if the Legends accidentally changed something. That thrill definitely adds to the appeal of the show.
From the American Revolution to Jack the Ripper to the Medieval Times, here are five time periods we’d like to see our Legends tackle:
1. Medieval Times
There’s something so entrancing about the Medieval Times. So much so that you can get a taste of it with attractions that bring it together with dinner and a show. From the costumes to jousting, the Medieval Times could be one of those really fun episodes where our Legends get to let loose. And star Caity Lotz agrees with us. She told a crowd at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in New York that she’d like to see the team travel to medieval times, where she’d like to see Sara hold a lance. Get it?
2. American Revolution
Maybe it’s because Hamilton has us so into the American Revolution, but we’d love to see our Legends take a trip back to when the United States was just beginning. The intriguing thing about exploring past timelines on this show is recreating this past and getting to see what could’ve been. The American Revolution would find our group among the Founding Fathers of America, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton. As far as story goes, our Legends could find themselves in a place where they threaten to rewrite history and forever alter their futures and the future of the United States of America.
3. Salem Witch Trials

As people we’re drawn to stories that we are curious about. Thinking back to history class in school, one of the things that always drew my attention was the Salem Witch Trials. So with the introduction of Vixen this season it’d be a huge loss if Legends of Tomorrow didn’t travel to the Salem and explore that time period. With Vixen’s mystical powers she could be the focus of this episode as she finds herself subjected to the dangers of the time being considered a “witch.”
4. Jack the Ripper, East End of London 1888
When it comes to serial killers there’s none that invokes as much intrigue and fear than Jack the Ripper. In 1888, Jack the Ripper put fear into East London with the murders of multiple women. One of the things that made the Ripper so enticing even to this day was due to the fact to how the media covered it back in the day. Also the fact that the Ripper’s true identity was never discovered also adds to that intrigue. If the Legends were to explore East End London in 1888, this could be one of those episodes where the Legends have a mission but the opportunity to stop Jack the Ripper – or find out more – distracts them.
5. The Renaissance
The Renaissance was one of the culturally defining periods in history that brought together new thinking in art, architecture, politics, science and literature. This would an intriguing period of time for our Legends to explore with that cultural enlightenment. It could be one of those episodes that forces our Legends to take a look at themselves and really explore who they are and who they want to be.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns for its second season on Oct. 13 at 8/7c on The CW.
