Toy Story kills me with every single time, but I still can’t stop watching the show. It reminds me of the joys of being a kid, but also the joys of being an adult. I think that Toy Story reminds me to take each and every moment for what it is.
With the fourth movie coming out – I admit, I don’t want to see it. I want to save it for a moment in time where I need it. Because I feel like these are just those type of movies. They are there when you need them.
Here’s the official synopsis of the fourth movie –
Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.
So I am taking a moment to watch this trailer and dealing with the tears that rise in my eyes. I guess that’s the thing about the Toy Story franchise. It hits you hard and it hits you good.
But as usual, I am taking movie trailers as my episode of 1990’s TGIF and I am learning something from the trailers, but all of these can be things that I have learned from the Toy Story franchise.
TOYS ARE JOY, BUT WHY?
I think that we all ask ourselves this question over and over. But in the case of some of these toys – well hell all of them – it’s to bring joy. All of the toys are there to bring joy. I remember being a kid and nothing brought me more joy than my books and toys. I think it all has to do memories. I think that it’s one of the most important things about your childhood – establishing memories are bringing joy. So hey, if a toy brings you joy – go with it. Treasure it. Fuck anyone who says different.
WATCH OUT FOR YOUR FRIENDS
Friendship is one of the biggest blessings on this earth. Other people complete parts of us that we need completed. And that’s okay. Friendship is an important part of life. I think that sometimes we get so caught up in ourselves that we neglect those around us. We owe it to the world to let people in. And when we let people in, we owe it to them to be there for them. People need the people that they let in. Be there for your friends.
RELYING ON OTHERS ISN’T A BAD THING
In this world, we are all fiercely independent. And hey, that’s okay. I know that in life we all have made a million mistakes, but one of the biggest ones is forgetting that others are there for you. Relying on your friends isn’t a bad thing. Knowing that you don’t have to be alone is freeing.
STUFFED ANIMALS ARE A RIGHT OF LIFE
I personally have never liked stuffed animals, but that’s because they hold a lot of germs. BUT – they do offer a ton of comfort. And I appreciate all of that. Because even though I don’t like them, I couldn’t live without them in times of needing comfort.
Toy Story 4 hits theaters June 21, 2019.
