Anyone who knows Louis Tomlinson will know that he has a heart of gold. Taking the lead in many charity events from Stand up to Cancer, Make A Wish, Eden Dora Trust, to football games, and many others, Tomlinson tries to give back in any way he can.
But this week, fandom hearts all over the world exploded with the release of Tomlinson’s latest video for “Two of Us”. No stranger to loss, having lost his mother and sister over the last few years, Tomlinson took the opportunity to make the video something more than just the typical.
Louis heard that a man name Richard was looking to check a few items off his bucket list after losing his wife due to complications of Alzheimer’s in 2016. And 83 year old Richard was ready to face all challenges head on, giving the former singer, actor and taxi driver the chance to check a few items off his bucket list.
“I started playing at the clubs and pubs when I was about 17 years old — I did 45 years of that and gave it up when my wife started being ill. She couldn’t be left alone. Unfortunately, she’s gone now — two years this Christmas she’s been gone,” Richard explained.
Posting to Instagram on April 24, Tomlinson gave us a hint of what the two had been experiencing.
“A month or so ago I met an amazing man called Richard. He had a few things he wanted to do so I thought I’d help him out. This video feels particularly relevant and powerful to me. Richard is a classic example of a fearless man who in light of tragedy still pushes himself to live with as much laughter and happiness as possible,” – Louis Tomlinson
The video showed the two experiencing many of Richard’s wishes together, and the bond the two quickly formed. Tomlinson asks Richard about his bucket list and how it came to be, with items including flying a helicopter, driving a race car, and riding a roller coaster.
“It was something I’ve always fancied doing,” – Richard
Getting a tattoo was also on Richard’s bucket list, but instead of going under the needle, he gave Louis one instead. Each item on the list brought joy to Richard and Louis alike, but it was the final item on his list that only Louis Tomlinson would have been able to help make come true.
Near the end of the video, Richard reveals he has always wanted to perform in a packed arena. Luckily for him, his new friend is a bit of a pro in that regard. In an emotional crescendo, Richard and Louis sing the opera ballad Nessun Dorma to a thrilled crowd.
“It’s been a good time with you Louis,” Richard says after his performance.
“It’s been lovely. No bulls—. Actually spending real time with you and feeling like we’ve gotten to know each other. It’s been really nice,” Louis replied, melting our hearts.
