Lucifer 2016 SDCC Interview: Aimee Garcia

Aimee Garcia is at our table Lucifans and the infectious excitement for her character “Ella Lopez” newly christened series regular is contagious. She may be someone we haven’t met but to hear Garcia describe her makes me need September 19 to arrive rapidly. “I love that she’s not self conscious, she’s completely confident in who she is, she knows exactly where her north star is, her compass is so clear, her faith with God is so clear, she’s fearless and is just who she is.”

Garcia will portray a brilliant scientist who joins the Lucifer crew, and is a clear believer in God, an exciting combination you don’t often see on mainstream television. The cherry on top is how different and frankly genuine of a person she sounds. Garcia notes that she too believes “she’s super smart, but also kind of goofy, but she’s also like cool who loves anything from the Shining to Nickelodeon shows” and loves that she gets to embrace all these elements as she poignantly states “as a woman of color you don’t see that often.”

To prepare for the role, she researched thoroughly about forensic scientists, interviewing those who work in the field, watching documentaries and videos to build her character completely from the ground up.

From the bat we will get treated to seeing her interact with our favorite Devil in a suit, and while on the surface they are “polar opposites” according to Garcia she won’t be treating him like anyone else and “invades his personal space constantly” leaving Lucifer to question what in the world is going on, haha.

For the rest of our interview with Aimee Garcia, check out how she surprised Tom Ellis on her first day with him on set, and more teases about the intriguing “Ella Lopez” and her interactions with Lucifer.

Lucifer returns Monday September 19 9/8c on Fox.
