Marvel’s Daredevil found its Punisher in Jon Bernthal

Exciting news for the hotly anticipated second season of the Netflix Original Series, Marvel’s Daredevil is that Marvel announced that Jon Bernthal has been cast as Frank Castle also known as The Punisher.

Jon Bernthal is known for his roles in The Walking Dead, Fury and The Wolf of Wall Street. Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb, commented on the casting by saying “Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences.”

Bernthal tweeted his excitement for the role:

Frank Castle/The Punisher first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974 as a war veteran whose wife and two children were killed by the mob and Castle gets his revenge by waging a one man war on criminals and the mob in New York. He is known for using brutal forces in order to kill and/or punish criminals. From this stand point it is easy to see how he can be allied with or against Matt Murdock’s Daredevil.

The Punisher has been portrayed on film three times by Dolph Lundgren (1989), Thomas Jane (2004) and Ray Stevenson (2008).

The second season of Daredevil will stream on Netflix in 2016.
