Dylan O’Brien Gives Fans First Look at ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’

The MTV Movie & TV Awards are the gift that keeps on giving. Not only did we get a sneak peek of Teen Wolf‘s final ten episodes, but we also got our first look at Maze Runner: The Death Cure, guided by none other than Dylan O’Brien and cast mates including Ki Hong Lee, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Dexter Darden.

This behind the scenes preview of the film, which is set to hit theaters in February 2018, streamed live on on Sunday ahead of the network’s awards show.

In the video, O’Brien & Co. show viewers around the WCKD compound, where Minho (Lee) is being held captive and Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) appears to be spending time much more willingly.

Watch the first look below:

Other than a lot of cool, futuristic hallways and labs, there’s some interesting stuff to be gleaned from the sneak peek. “It’s a rescue mission,” Brodie-Sangster says, teasing that The Death Cure will bring the franchise “full circle.”

It looks as though that rescue mission will involve infiltrating the WCKD compound and labs as the Gladers attempt to bring Minho home – something that’s easier said than done. “Imagine trying to break into something that looks as secure as this. It’s not gonna be easy,” Darden says.

The cast also teases both new and returning characters, as well as new dynamics between the Gladers we know and love. O’Brien says, “This is really the first time that the audience is gonna see this group that’s always been a team kind of split up.”

We also see bits and pieces of stunts, practical effects, and hints at the Flare-ravaged outside world that leave us more excited than ever to see this movie hit the big screen. It looks like it’s going to be nothing short of epic.

It’s been a long road to production for Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which halted production in early 2016 after O’Brien was seriously injured in an on-set accident. Filming resumed this March in South Africa, with the movie receiving a new release date. Based on this teaser, it looks as though the Maze Runner gang is back and better than ever – and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us this time.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure hits theaters on February 9, 2018.
