Maze Runner: The Death Cure has had a rough start to production, but it seems that things are getting back on track. While star Dylan O’Brien continues to mend from his on-set injuries, the film has acquired a new release date, moving from February 17, 2017 to January 12, 2018.
O’Brien was hospitalized in March during the first week of filming The Death Cure after an accident during production. Production was halted during his recovery – and later indefinitely postponed by Fox. “We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible,” part of the statement read.
Though there is still no word on when production will resume, filming will likely start up again early next year. O’Brien’s potential starring role in American Assassin, filming this fall, may be a contributing factor to the almost-year delay, along with his injuries. Several of the other actors have also committed to new roles that were supposed to start filming after Death Cure wrapped, which may complicate reassembling everyone in Vancouver – but the new release date suggests that Fox has found a time that will work with everyone’s schedules.
In any case, we continue to wish Dylan the best and look forward to The Death Cure resuming production.
