#MazeRunner Fans: Get Your First Look at ‘The Scorch Trials’! @MazeRunnerMovie

Get ready, Gladers… We’re finally getting our first look at The Scorch Trials! Entertainment Weekly and People released the first stills from the film today, featuring returning favorites and giving us a look at some of the new characters the Gladers will be encountering this time around.

It’s out of the Maze and into the fire for Thomas, Teresa, & Co., who have escaped the giant maze from the first film only to find themselves in another hostile environment. Producer Wyck Godfrey explained to EW: “The first movie was the mystery of ‘Where are we and what is this place? And can we get out?’ But the second movie is about the repercussions of getting out and the discovery of what the world is actually like.” Though the new stills don’t show us too much of the Scorch–the “desert with sand dunes that crawl and are swallowing the ruins of a lost world,” as director Wes Ball explains–this first look does give us plenty to think about.

The first still shows Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) with new character Brenda (Rosa Salazar, right), whom the Gladers encounter as they make their way across the Scorch. According to People, the woman on the left is another new character called Ponytail, played by Jenny Gabrielle–probably a Crank.

Another still shows the Gladers eyeing an appetizing feast–certainly a welcome sight after their trying escape from the Maze. But who left it for them? The debate about whether the Gladers can trust their apparent saviors will be a major question in The Scorch Trials.

It looks as though we can also expect plenty of action from the film. Wes Ball explains, “Our group runs into a lot of people out in the Scorch. Some are friends, some are foes. In this case, they’ve stumbled onto the latter.”

We also see Thomas taking charge with a gun in several of the stills, in both offensive and defensive postures.
