Say goodbye to Layla and Luke on Nashville’s upcoming fifth season.
That’s right, Nashville’s Aubrey Peeples (Layla Grant) and Will Chase (Luke Wheeler) are not returning to the show’s fifth season on CMT. According to The Hollywood Reporter:
Will Chase and Aubrey Peeples are likely to depart the country music drama ahead of its season-five move to CMT, sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
The news comes less than two weeks after CMT officially picked up a fifth season of the now-former ABC drama in a pact made that will allow Hulu to keep next-day streaming rights. ABC surprised many in May when it cut the veteran series despite its small but loyal fanbase.
We wouldn’t have believed it if Chase hadn’t have tweeted, confirming:
Cowboy boots: Off
Tap shoes: On
— Will Chase (@WillChaseMe) June 23, 2016
The “tap shoes” part comes from Chase joining the Broadway musical, “Something Rotten!”, as William Shakespeare. He will enter the show 2 days after current actor Christian Borle leaves on July 16, as ABC News reports.
While we will miss Layla’s antics on Nashville, her time on the show has come and gone. Ever since Avery (Jonathan Jackson) found out that she had been deceiving him in the season-four finale, it was only a matter of time when she would leave permanently. As for Luke, it will be interesting how his client Will (Chris Carmack) will keep defending himself against Music City homophobes without him.
