Say it ain’t so.
In not so-surprising, and yet, still painful news, Netflix has gone ahead and cancelled the last two Marvel series left on it’s service. The Punisher, whose Season 2 debuted a month ago, and Jessica Jones, whose Season 3 has yet to debut, but will still air on the streamer, presumably at some point this year.
The writing was on the wall for both after Netflix earlier in the year cancelled Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil, and seems to confirm that Netflix is looking to invest more in their own productions, instead of costly Marvel ones.
Jon Bernthal, who played Frank Castle in Daredevil Season 2 and on the two seasons of The Punisher, took to instragram to thank the fans:

To all who have served. All who know loss. All who love and understand Frank and his pain. It has been an honor to walk in his boots. I’m endlessly grateful to the comic fans and the men and women of the Armed Services and law enforcement community who Frank means so much to. Thank you to the USMC and all the wonderful soldiers who trained me. Go Hard. Be safe.

Is this the end for good? It seems so, though Marvel TV wasn’t ready to call it quits for good, as the streamer comments to Deadline after the news broke seem to offer some hope for some kind of future for these characters.
“On behalf of everyone at Marvel Television, we couldn’t be more proud or more grateful to our audience. Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that. As Matthew Murdock’s Dad once said, ‘The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it’s how he gets back up. To be continued…!”
Still, this is a sad day for fans of Frank Castle, Jessica Jones, and all the characters that inhabited those worlds. A really, really sad day.
