You know how there are things in life that you want people to enjoy, but in a way you hope that they never happen, because if they do it could destroy the thing that you loved? That’s how I feel with The Babysitters Club. It is such a great series that I feel like a new generation should enjoy it.
But then there is another part of me that is truly against it – because I don’t want what I treasured to be changed. However, the excitement outweighs the fear and I am excited that Netflix is making a Babysitters Club series.
It’s a live action series that has been ordered for 10 episodes.
Storylines of the episodic half-hour will focus on the entrepreneurial girls’ ventures and friendships, maneuvering the launch and success of their business while staving off competition and overcoming various growing pains along the way. Episodes will broach topics from the books such as racism, divorce and belonging while continuing to push the bar and explore relevant issues facing modern day teens.
I am excited to see how the show takes on the issues in a way that kids will relate to.
“I’m amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The Baby-Sitters Club after all these years,” author Ann M. Martin said, “and I’m honored to continue to hear from readers — now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers — who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends. So I’m very excited about the forthcoming series on Netflix, which I hope will inspire a new generation of readers and leaders everywhere.”
I am excited to see how it all plays out and to be honest if they fuck it up, you can bet like everything else, we’ll be vocal about it.
