Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events Gets Premiere Date

By

A Series of Unfortunate Events is coming – and, if you know Lemony Snicket, you understand why he’s warning you away.

That’s just who he is.

Netflix’s adaptation of the acclaimed book series will be available, fittingly,  on Friday the 13th of January 2017. The series – which is 13 books long – follows the lives of the Baudelaire orphans (Violet, Klaus and Sunny), and their evil guardian Count Olaf.

This is not a happy tale, Lemony Snicket (pen name for Daniel Handler) warns you right away in The Bad Beginning, the first book in the series. But for fans of the Baudelaire orphans, this is indeed good news, despite what their creator might say. The last book was, after all, published in 2006, and fans have been waiting a long time to see these characters come to life once again.

Netflix’s adaptation is set to have 8 episodes and as for how many books that will entail, Neil Patrick Harris (who plays Count Olaf), had this to say, when asked to compare the series to the 2004 movie:

“They truncated all of the books into a two hour movie. And there’s thirteen books in the series. So [Netflix’s take] is more spread out. Each book is going to be two episodes. We did the first four books, the first eight episodes of the show.”

Check out the trailer below, even if Netflix itself warns you away from it:
