The new ‘Lion King’ Boasts a Star-Studded Cast

One of the most beloved Disney movies, The Lion King has been hard at work casting all the characters for 2019, Jon Favreau-directed reboot.

Atlanta’s Donald Glover will play the main role of Simba, while James Earl Jones will reprise the role of Mufasa which he played in 1994 film version.

Rounding up the cast is Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner as Pumba and Timon respectively, John Oliver as Zazu and  Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar.

EW has announced that Alfre Woodard will play Sarabi, Simba’s mother, and John Kani will play Rafiki, Mufasa’s advisor. No word yet if the creators managed to get Beyonce on board to play Nala.

Jon Favreau previously directed the recent The Jungle Book book for Disney, and the new Lion King will utilize performance-capture technology and computer-generated imagery in a similar way that The Jungle Book did.

The film will be released in cinemas on July 19, 2019.
